I just don’t get this; applied last year and status stayed “inactive” for the entire year despite my internal rec submitting a letter. Just filled it out again and same thing.

Yesterday my was 6th application in 5 years to UPS, and the first time that I did NOT get an immediate TBNT/rejection email, or follow up. I don't know what triggered that, but I can tell you that I am well below the avg TT and have 0 121 and am not military. I will probably get the email Monday once someone actually looks at it.

The rumor I heard back in 14/15’ was that they looked at apps in blocks. Say 100 apps came in, they’d look through them, filter & choose, then re-open the window until the next 100 came in. And so on. This would partially explain why some get called with equal applications and others don’t - your selection is relative to whom you applied with at the point in time. No idea if this is what actually happens but no evidence to the contrary either.

As a fighter guy, do I add in the 0.3 per sortie for the application or do I let them calculate it?

I’m not sure a recommendation would help you or anyone else to secure an interview? In the past yes but now? Supposedly a LoR helps after an interview as additional points are added to the overall score but I’m not sure anymore as each year LoRs seem to have different levels of importance.

Truthfully NO ONE here, and I mean not a single one of us, really knows how our selection process works. It’s illogical, whimsical and changes by the hour and by the recruiter of the day. Line pilots are embarrassed by how prospective employees are treated during the application process and also after they’ve interviewed. Apologies.

You should ask your sponsor to look into it. Maybe he or she can contact HR and find out?

The Section II: Flight Time instructions on the app site say "do not add military conversion". I imagine they're just using the "Total Mil Sorties" at the bottom of that section to apply any conversions.

Also, is it correct to assume that once someone enters an internal rec for you that it is possible for your application then to switch from inactive to active?

Thanks!
Buckeye, That seemed to be the case for me. Initial app, I got the TBNT email immediately and went inactive. Not sure what exactly triggered the switch to "active", but it happen sometime after my second or third internal was submitted. Sat "active" for most of last year, then opened back up "active" this year after resubmitting. Good luck!

Your question is answered above, but it highlights why a lot of guys get TBNT responses year after year. The UPS app doesn’t allow you to go back in after you fill it out and fix errors. When you are done, it grades you and effectively locks you out. Even if you score as Active and can get back in, HR only sees your initial input. It is critical you have all of your relevant info handy before you start the app and read the directions carefully. I’m not defending the software, merely pointing out that it is far less forgiving than every other airline app I filled out. Good luck to everyone

...
Perfectly stated.

Listen up folks - there are numerous threads here where people look for advice on how they may log back in and correct errors made - quite often they can’t until the next year.

Intentional or not, this is the first way the app is screened. RTFD. Create a throw-away email and fill out a fake one if you have to, but read the whole thing and do the real app right. Relying on random people from the internet to answer questions that are specifically covered in the actual instructions may not be the best way to get past “go.” It’s a great way to self-select your application to the pile you don’t want it to be in, though.
