Just shows that the information provided on this website is worth about as much as you pay for it.

It’s pretty simple; stay engaged with the union. If you have any questions or concerns about certain issues, call/email your reps. Let your voice be heard and hopefully get some answers.

Oh, and ignore random internet users who claim to know what’s really going on.

You’d think this would be fairly obvious. Doubly so when it’s coming from someone who is also making disparaging remarks about our Union…

So is there a merger happening with SWA or what?

Yes. Of course there is.

All though many of us would love to see a merger. Alaska has perfectly positioned itself to be unattractive to most of our potential suitors. Southwest has no interest in airbus or in 737-900s; the only thing we have to offer is Seattle, they are already dominating Hawaii at the time and place of their choosing. Jetblue doesn't need us anymore thanks to covid. They have gates in LAX and with help of their codeshare with American they have already started picking off all our transcon routes. Once the 220's get here they can do the same with the West Coast and midcon flying if they want.
Why buy AS when you can just take their market share?

Slots, gates. Max delivery positions? Pilots?

It's not cheap or quick to crush a competitor out of existence, and then you don't control who gets their stuff in the process. Wouldn't want to go through all of that only to defeat your competitor but have their gates/slots allocated to a ULCC or startup.

Over/under on getting stapled to the bottom?

I’m mostly ignorant about airlines but talked to an extremely bummed former AirTran pilot who was OAK based SWA. Kinda burned into my memory banks when I was a 91/135 guy. “Bro. That hella sucks.” Was my response IIRC… Circa 2013ish Maybe 2014-15. It’s all a blur.

I’d love to be treated fairly in this industry but don’t have any prior experiences to believe that would be the case.

Theoretically how would things seniority wise shake out for AS pilots.

I see our biggest asset for SWA being the simulators.

Well, between two ALPA outfits there is a template of sorts. In a SWA-AS merger though, AS-ALPA would have to dicker with SWAPA as to who got dicked the worst. Of course SWAPA has over three times as many pilots so they’d have the bigger hammer in the SLI.

Tranny was a unique situation.

Federal law forbids a staple, regardless of union (or lack thereof).

In the case of Tranny, SWA was in a position to threaten to liquidate the airline to force the pilots to *voluntarily* accept a very adverse SLI to avoid liquidation and unemployment.

Even SWA could not remotely afford to buy AS and then plausibly liquidate it just to give their pilots a favored SLI position.

AS ALPA could plausibly get taken to the cleaners by SWAPA, but not a staple.
