Quote: The make-up bank system at FDX is stupid in and of itself, but is especially restrictive for junior folks. If you are in the bottom 10% of the company your ability to pick up OT is essentially zero.
I've credited over 1,200 hours per year since I got here (7 years). Over 1,400 hours per year during COVID. Tell me more about these difficulties.

It's more about learning how to work the system that is in place.

Can you read? I specifically said this applies to junior pilots. If you’ve been around 7 years then your experience is VASTLY different than someone hired in the past 2-3 years. Ask the new folks on the domestic fleets how easy it is to fly extra. If you can’t hold carryover lines or aren’t dropping MIL leave you’re not getting M/U.

Can you read? I said the entire time I've been here. I've always been junior via early upgrades (New Hire WB FO to 2.5 year CA) and constant seat progressions. Sounds like you just didn't know how to work the system. I've never had or needed much of any Makeup bank to plus up my Credit Hours.

BTW - I think you're a lil out of the loop. They're calling for Draft in the 767 and 757 FO positions for those junior domestic fellas now days.

Hope you're enjoying American.

You’re missing the point. We don’t have to get creative, not carry in, no conflict, no trip trades to increase credit, no waiting for a JA. I see a trip in open time and I pick it up, simple. Fedex pilots have to essentially back door their additional credit. And I have at least two friends hired in the last 4 years who complain precisely about this.

Na, I get it. I have prior airline background where it's a free-for-all on open time. This system limits rampant OT pickups in an attempt to spread the wealth and pump up staffing numbers for ALPA. But every airline CBA has unique contractual provisions and limitations that everyone should learn how to exploit and take full advantage of. This system is not nearly as limiting as some make it seem. Even without any Makeup bank you can pickup down to -6:00 hours every month and Trade up In Value by 12:00 credit hours every month. That's an 18:00 credit improvement that you're capable of every month. At 68:00 and 85:00 hours BLG (Bid Line Guarantee) that's 86:00 and 103:00 that you're capable of achieving every month with zero makeup bank. Now throw in all of those additional measures that you've mentioned above. It's not that difficult to earn extra credit hours at FedEx.

Im fairly junior at purple and i don’t think it’s that bad. Right now OT is scarce so it’s slim pickings and people fighting for scraps. OT pickup at my prior 121 pax major was not any better. The vacation and conflict system at purple are phenomenal, but a result of that is the makeup priority in OT.

Quote: I’ve heard of people leaving brown for purple but not purple for brown. Reason I ask is that I just don’t trust the pax world so I won’t leave purple for pax. But with how negotiations are going here at purple and with all the changes with Drive and C suite people and our product going downhill, I’m wondering how life is at brown. I understand the relationship between the union and management isn’t all that great but is it anywhere? From what I hear, browns union seems to actually have some strength and unity rather than purples union who sold us student lines…
Just thoughts I’m having about the long game.
Doesnt sound like Brown is going to hire for another year or two. Not sure it would be worth it to give up 4+ years of seniority for a similar shop. IMO flying pax isn’t the boogeyman many make it out to be. If you’re not happy at purple, just make the jump to a legacy.

You are right. It is much worse! We airline a lot due to our schedule construction, plus my commuting, dealing with the vast majority of woke flight attendants has truly become a pain in the ****. The sense of entiltlement, from gate agents to flight attendants is widespread. Lazy is an understatement. Plus I want to get up to use the lav, boy do the FA's get upset. The gate agents and the FA's in general act like they are doing you a favor. And that's not even dealing with the passengers. No thank you. Glad you love that environment.

You're over reacting to the situation during negotians.
