Quote: From the sound of things we would be at 800 or around there if we hadn't received this additional flying and had to furlough more.
They did say in the conf call that we'd be looking at 200 more pilot furloughs if we didn't get the JFK stuff.

But in the next breath they said that there is no new flying in JFK, we're just doing the Freedom flying and they're doing our flying in CVG.

Must list and show up for at least two flights an hour or more apart and scheduled to arrive at least 30mins prior to report. Doesn't have to be Delta because they can see if you have been verified in CASS or they can also call the airline you are using.

There is additional flying for the summer schedule...not much...but it keeps some guys off the street for now. I'm beginning to hear more about opening a maint facility in JFK, which means more movement out of CVG and into the NE in the future.

just some sound advice from a comair commuter to another. when you list for those two flights make sure you keep the 'seat request' ticket. a commuter(a good friend) told me he was doing the carpet dance explaining why he didn't show up for work a few months ago.

p.s I also write notes on the ticket(flight cancelled, bumped, etc.)

Quote: I kept hearing about how how our contract is actually what prevents us from opening up a voluntary bid system wide. Not sure I agree, but since when does the company follow the contract anyway. Also, it's not that the contract says it can't be done so much as I don't think it's addressed.

"You guys are professionals and you know where and when you are suppose to be at work. How you get there is up to you." Good Luck guys.

I know they tried to make it sound like they though everything through, but from the tone in their voices during the call it sounds like there is actually a lot that they didn't think about and that they aren't as confident that this is going to be so simple.

My prediction. Attrition will pick up a little in the coming months. Not much, but a little. People who have never commuted before are going to try it and are absolutely going to hate it, then will throw in the towel and leave. Keep in mind we are going to have probably near 300+ crews commuting out of CVG right when the summer weather starts to screw up the NE. Guys and Gals aren't going to see their families or their own beds until October.
Attrition picking up? Dream on.

31 pilots took the early out and I have talked to more that now wish they had taken it. I have spoken with guys that are already lining up other non-aviation work, or even applying to colleges to go back to school in case the commute is too much for them. We'll see....

I think it will a little bit at least. I can think of 5 guys off the top of my head that have their own business or better jobs in CVG and fly "on the side."

I would think somewhere around 30 more guys will quit within the next 2 or 3 months after the transfer occurs.

I hope so... lets get the attrition movin! I'm ready to get back to work... no matter where I'm based.

Amen! Climbing in and out of Tomahawks (PA38-112) is killing my back (I'm 6'7") It makes climbing in the right seat seem like a walk in the park even with the flight case!

Must be nice... I haven't been able to fly since the furlough... I miss it like no other.. Getting kind of sick pushing papers, but glad I have a job right now.
