They say although crazy things have happened they don't foresee calling back any furloughs through the summer because of the block hour reduction in September.
Props to whoever asked the question about 50% of the captains in JFK being on reserve. "The numbers don't lie, so that was a blatant lie" response... "Next question please."
That's it! I'm calling Tone and I'm bringing Paulie with me! Who do these people think they are?

So they just confirmed that these bids will shake out the way they do. Seniority aside. An 18 year Captain in the 50 will not have an opportunity to to bid Captain in the 70 and will end up on reserve in CVG as a Captain while a more junior Captain holds a line in the 70 in CVG. This is all because it will be a displacement bid and the more senior Captain won't have an opportunity to bid since he won't be displaced. He asked why seniority is not going to be honored here and the response he was given was that if a voluntary bid was open to the entire pilot group it would be a massive training cost to the company. THIS IS CRAP. Basically your seniority and your contract don't matter because it would cost the company money.
Furloughed guys.......Are you sure that you would really want to come back here next year(if then.) Mesa is almost proving to have better working conditions than this place.

This is exactly the scenario that happened to my wife (a CRC). She was the most junior CRC not displaced in the displacement to CVG FO (captain downgrades). People junior to her were able to bid C7C and she was left as the most junior CRC at the time.
They've done it before, and they are doing it again. Now it's getting more attention.

So will ALPA be doing anything to keep these senior guys from getting screwed?
As far as "massive training costs" that would be incurred in the event of a new bid, me thinks it would be a drop in the bucket compared to the added costs of doing business in the northeast with minimal staffing, scheduling software that doesn't work, and a whole bunch of pilots that won't be able to get to work!

This is obviously allowed in our contract, so ALPA can't do anything about it. It was obvious to me during the conference call that since "we have great crewmembers that will do what it takes to get the job done" that they don't care about how we get to work or what hell we have to go through. My wife and I are getting displaced, and this is going to turn our lives upside down. We're looking at moving up that way now. Hell of a time to sell our house too.
