Thanks IPAMD11FO. You'd a thought they could have included this in the last bid. But there I go again... thinking.

SKMarz, these are original vacancies. Out of these will come recurring vacancies. So for 22 original vacancies we should expect to see a good number of recurring vacancies (up to 44 transitions and 22 upgrades). Clear as mud?

The over 60 folks who couldn't hold capt. on the last original bid will probably now upgrade from 74Y FO to 74Y CA in this bid, in addition to those who didn't make the cut on the last round. This will cause the recurring vacancy as the now vacant FO slots become available to those who bid it in seniority order provided they are off of probation. This in affect may move us all forward again... That is until June when the final 747 Classic displacement bid comes we will all move backwards once again... Spinning wheels...

Re: Vacancy Bid 08-102

General Information

Vacancy Bid 08-102 opens on April 21, 2008 and will close on May 5, 2008 at 10:00 (SDF).

This bid will continue to add captain positions to the 747-400 for all remaining aircraft deliveries this year. The final realignment displacement bid to park the remaining 747 classic aircraft is still scheduled to open this June. This June bid will also add first officer positions to the 747-400 and possibly include vacancies to account for attrition.

Training will start as early as May 2008. Training will be bid in accordance with article 10.C.1.h. of the Agreement. Training date bidding is planned to open May 6, 2008.

Bypass: It is our intent to bypass only the six crewmembers whose 64th birthday is prior to March 31, 2008. We plan to train all other crewmembers that are awarded a position in the bid.

Again, we do not intend to bypass crewmembers whose 64th birthday is after March 31, 2008.

Exactly, I have been waiting for him to expand on the bids true meaning, hopefully getting a true feel for who's going where!

Having a look at the latest seniority list published today - which takes into account the awarded positions of the last system bid - there are still about 100 over age 60 FEs on the DC-8.

Is it safe to assume that the vast majority, if not all vacancies and recurring vacancies will go to over 60 folks? This should result in the FE list being shortened as there are not displacements associated with this round.

Can anyone open the ANC MD11 F/O Bid packets?

Fit59,
My curiosity is that they are not hiring, not displacing, so they will be going short somewhere, looks like they want to start draining the S/O slots temporarily.
I envision Roberto sitting in a dimly lit room with a laptop and speadsheets all around with him saying things like " Ah hah, I knew he would bid ANC afterall" and other musings.
Just kidding Roberto! Waiting for your assesment of the bids soon.

Shaggy,
UPS is experiencing technical errors on the external access to files on the website, they are working on it and are not advertising a fix time yet.

This bid was a pleasant surprise to me, and is a smart move.

Based on the existing system bid preferences, 15 of the 22 original vacancies will be awarded to over-60 ANC FO awardees from the last bid. May as well train them as CPT's now to avoid repetitive training. Three of the over-60 MD11 FO awardees had ANC CPT bids, so may as well not train them in the MD11 before they get their ANC CPT award.

Other than that, a couple FE's had an ANC CPT bid in that didn't get it last time that can get one this time. Finally, two under-60 captains (one MD11 and one 747 classic) had bids in that can get it this time, based on their seniority.

All of these movements should result in the junior captain award in this bid being about seniority number 331.

There might be a few changes, but if nothing changes, there will be about 15 recurring ANC FO vacancies, and five lower-48 front-seat recurring vacancies. The five lower-48 front-seat recurring vacancies will go senior (to existing over-60 FE's). About 5 of the 15 recurring ANC FO vacancies will go to over-60 FE's who had a bid in last time and didn't get an award. That leaves about 10 ANC FO vacancies that will go junior.

A thought as to how some bids may change. Someone who didn't submit an ANC FO bid last time may put one in this time, as they will be able to bid higher on the FO list, enabling an acceptable IRO line. That is about all an over-60 FO can expect, with about 40 over-60 CPT's in the -400 after this bid.
