I have heard rumors from no hiring for 3-4 years to hiring on the panel this year. Depends on who you talk to on what kind of answer you get reguarding the 76/dc-8 deal. Talk to some guys high up in maint. and they will tell you the 76 is a replacement for the 8. Talk to someone in the training dept. and they say it is not a replacement. I think it is a replacement of some sort. With many MD's coming back to domestic, the whole system is being shuffled. So it is going to be hard to really see if the 76's are replacing the 8. Salty is right, not even the company knows how many guys will actually work until 65. Too many variables right now to guess when hiring might start up again. If we hire in 09, I think that would be an optimistic guess. I just have a hard time seeing anyone off the street getting on this year.

Welcome to our world.

Just a few short months ago, I was thinking that there was no way in hell that I would be displaced out of ONT since I had approximately 30 warm bodies below me. After watching the domino effect of the last displacement, I don't have that warm fuzzy feeling anymore. It's looking like mukluks and igloos might very well be in my future.....if only for a short period of time until I can bid right back to ONT.

Basically, I've given up trying to figure out how this company staffs its pilot requirements. Good luck Jay.

A captain told me that a Boeing guy on the jumpseat told him that UPS has dedicated slots at the factory and N numbers already assigned for a 777 buy. Discuss

I heard a variation of this rumor 2.5 years ago. If it happens, it will happen. Until then, ask the van drivers. They know everything!

I am sure if we ever got them, they would be based in some third world country. UPS would make sure they would be as far away from SDF as possible.

That's not true. They will be in SDF, but you'll have to be triple digits to hold them.

Triple digits???? Triple does not even hold F/O in ANC for vacancies these days. That will change, but for the near future, the near dead will own the bids.

Not so grasshopper ... I saw one of our classmates was awarded a recurring vacancy on the 400 in ANC on this last bid that closed yesterday ... FWIW

He lives there ... and this is the first he could get the bid awarded.

Talking

First, welcome to the pool.

Second, any attempt to apply logic to UPS staffing, or a mulititude of other things around will result in you short-circuiting valuable brain cells you will need to train once you get out of the pool.
