There may be a couple lower-48 FO's that will bid ANC FO, and open up a recurring vacancy in their seats. These would be snatched up by senior over-60 FE's.

That sounds right. If there are 22 new front seats, that should ultimately lead to 22 fewer FE's after all the original and recurring vacancies are accounted for.

However, the June bid still has about 57 747 classic front-seat eligible pilots to be displaced. If the June bid has about 35 ANC FO's, that will put 22 front-seaters back to the FE position, to make up that transitory deficit.

Quote: This bid was a pleasant surprise to me, and is a smart move.

Based on the existing system bid preferences, 15 of the 22 original vacancies will be awarded to over-60 ANC FO awardees from the last bid. May as well train them as CPT's now to avoid repetitive training. Three of the over-60 MD11 FO awardees had ANC CPT bids, so may as well not train them in the MD11 before they get their ANC CPT award.

Other than that, a couple FE's had an ANC CPT bid in that didn't get it last time that can get one this time. Finally, two under-60 captains (one MD11 and one 747 classic) had bids in that can get it this time, based on their seniority.

All of these movements should result in the junior captain award in this bid being about seniority number 331.

There might be a few changes, but if nothing changes, there will be about 15 recurring ANC FO vacancies, and five lower-48 front-seat recurring vacancies. The five lower-48 front-seat recurring vacancies will go senior (to existing over-60 FE's). About 5 of the 15 recurring ANC FO vacancies will go to over-60 FE's who had a bid in last time and didn't get an award. That leaves about 10 ANC FO vacancies that will go junior.

A thought as to how some bids may change. Someone who didn't submit an ANC FO bid last time may put one in this time, as they will be able to bid higher on the FO list, enabling an acceptable IRO line. That is about all an over-60 FO can expect, with about 40 over-60 CPT's in the -400 after this bid.
Oops, I meant

....Two of the over-60 MD11 FO awardees....

and

.....Finally, two under-60 captains (one DC8 and one 747 classic)...

Which would add another ANC FO (making it 16 of the 22) and change the junior captain award to about seniority number 351

what attrition are they talking about?

Word around Barney's last week from a pretty old MD guy was that there was going to be a bit of that. I wonder if the company knows that too. Guess that they do now

Should we head over to the layovers thread and tell them about this weekend

With a couple days to go, 14 of the ANC CPT vacancies will go to ANC FO's, 3 to FE's, 3 to lower-48 CPT's, and 3 to MD11 FO's. The junior ANC CPT award is seniority number 330. There are 15 ANC FO recurring vacancies, and 10 will go junior at this time.

There are 8 recurring vacancies, 5 MD11 FO, and 3 lower-48 CPT's.

This may be off topic, but, how far out does UPS tend to staff/bid aircraft that are "planed" to be delivered (ie: 767s)? As a poolie, and an outsider, it seems like a waste of money and resources to displace a whole bunch of people in June (with training in the 3rd and 4th quarters), only to retrain them again in the 1st quarter next year when the 767s start showing up. Any thoughts Roberto?
