Quote: Union! Get some balls! Let them cancel vacations then you'll get pilots behind you! How do you expect pilots to enforce the contract when you won't even do it?
cause chances are, the group would blame the union for not stopping the vacations from getting cancelled. catch 22

What's the average 12 month pay one can expect to make at Piedmont during your first year? Is OT available? I'm interviewing next month.... Thanks guys.

35k considering they have one of the highest pay for first year and 5000 hours of open time a month.

Quote: so they're still disregarding the 5% clause of the contract, figures...
Yes they are. They've been disregarding it since May.

Quote: Apparently they told the union either:
1) let us disregard the 5% clause, or
2) all vacation will be cancelled which they can do according to the contract...
...so the union allowed them to violate the 5% rule
The MEC gave contract relief for June. The MEC wasn't notified before the company did it in May, and it's being grieved. To my knowledge the MEC didn't give contractual relief for July either. There's no excuse for the amount of Captain open time left after the finals are published in my opinion. And now they're pushing the classes back and all the FO open time is premium. Makes a whole lot of sense to me *sarcasm*

If I were to guess, I think they are trying to run us thin now so we're not fat in the winter. Problem is, aside from violating the contract, I think they underestimate future attrition. The number of people leaving might have slowed now but it will pick back up later this year.

This is the formula at PSA as well. Curse of the wholly owned subs. If they could afford to do annual furloughs they would. Could be fun actually. I once had a job that laid me off every Jan - March because I was "seasonal full time" they would file the needed paper work for unemployment benefits.. automatically. Jan-March I still had 2/3rds my normal income direct deposited to the bank. 3 month paid vacations are pretty fun. Spent many a winter waist deep in BC powder. Snow that is.

If seasonal resorts can exploit this why can't airlines?

I think 35k might be a bit on the high side.

i think you'd be lucky to break 30k if you ho'd yourself out and picked up premium stuff (which is kinda a no-no right now)
