When you graduate from a school like the one's listed, you have much, much, much more knowledge about this industry than you could ever imagine getting from Joe Blow's FBO. I have FO's that know the FMS inside out from their college curriculum, have been through jet courses and actually understand aerodynamics far beyond those that didn't have the college courses.
It's night and day. The 300 wonder from the FBO can succeed with the right instructors, skills and mindset but the college grads have seen checkrides far more detailed and inclusive than those who are not.
You can EASILY tell the difference.
Mesaba does NOT hire many 300hr., non-college pilots.
