Quote: Ya but they still hire 300 and 400 hour guys/gals... so where are they coming from?
Purdue U.
Western Michigan U.
UND
Parks College
Comair
Trans States
Republic
..any other airline that was furloughing after they were recently hired. Some not so recently.

None of these are bridge programs rather that they are preferred programs or entities.

a 300hr guy from another airline...hmmm ok then

I didnt go to a bridge program, but what is the difference if you come from a bridge program or what you call a preferred program besides a degree?
I'm sure they all fly like a 300hr pilot?

Mesaba is a goat and pony show just like Pinnacle...
PCLCREW - we do not have bridge programs like PCL does. We also hired few 300 hour wonders... they make up a very small part of the FO ranks. Further, our recent hiring has included virtually NOBODY under mins and nearly every single pilot hired has come from a 121/135 carrier. So... we you really know what's going on at Mesaba, you can spout off.
You guys are so pathetic. I can't believe this "my crappy regional is better than your crappy regional" game is still going on. It's like high school all over again. Everyone thinks they are cooler than the other guy...

You're kidding, right?

When you graduate from a school like the one's listed, you have much, much, much more knowledge about this industry than you could ever imagine getting from Joe Blow's FBO. I have FO's that know the FMS inside out from their college curriculum, have been through jet courses and actually understand aerodynamics far beyond those that didn't have the college courses.

It's night and day. The 300 wonder from the FBO can succeed with the right instructors, skills and mindset but the college grads have seen checkrides far more detailed and inclusive than those who are not.

You can EASILY tell the difference.

Mesaba does NOT hire many 300hr., non-college pilots.

I think it was one person aswering another one's question. Maybe he thought it was rhetorical but it actually had a very precise answer.

This might be a "you" issue.
Quote: LOL. Just sit back and watch boys. I can't help but laugh.

How does this operation exist? Can't get a hold of scheduling. Dispatch can't get updated runway condition reports. (gave them 45 minutes.) What a joke.

Its only December and the wheels are coming off.

12/22/08 - 58 hours CA opentime and 14 hours FO opentime. Good luck filling it.

What was that displacement memo we just got?

Can't wait to see this place in February. Anyone got any stories?
So what...let them come off! It is a piece of crap airline.

More than a few, don't kid yourself.

The last 6 months you've been hiring people with higher than your minimums. What about the last year prior to that? I could prolly name 100+ FO's who got hired straight outta college with less than 500 hours. Some are starting to upgrade at 1500 hours. Kinda scary...

If you want I can post some things that have happened at Mesaba, that I HIGHLY doubt a previous 121/135 person would do. It just the things that happen when you hire 200 hour wonders.

I think its funny how some at Mesaba HATE Pinnacle guys cuz of the whole bankrupcty thing. Bored, you might be one of them.

I disagree. Just because you go to an aviation college doesn't mean you can't be as knowledgeable. One could study their butt off and have a lot more knowledge than the college grad.

Checkrides vary by who is giving them. You should know that. Sure in college you get more 'stage checks'.

I highly doubt you could tell the difference between a 300 hour wonder and a 1000 hour wonder straight off OE. However you could tell the difference between someone straight off OE and someone who has been in the plane for a year.

The best way to tell if someone has experience this when things happen that are not standard or have no profile. 300 hours wonders are excellent at doing standard procedures and profiles. Its when something abnormal happens that the low time guy shows his colors.

Did you go to UND brah?
I would rather fly with a 300 hour college grad than the guy whohas a chip on his shoulder because he thinks he payed his duessomewhere else. The college kids have been taught critical thinkingskills and don't bring a bunch of the bad habbits to the flight deck. The guys that learned at Jo-Bobs flight school have the habbits of anon-standard program and what ever MA and Pa kettle felt like teachingthem.
When it comes time for a non-standard procedure in the aircraftexperience within that aircraft is the only thing that matters. If youwere hired at 300 hours, by the time you can upgrade you will have atleast 1200 hours to experience the complications of that plane. If youwere hired with 3000 hours of sitting in the right seat of some D-bagsCL65 what good are you in a SF340.
