Quote: So we are already to the point where we are hiring people that need 35 hours to finish IOE? If so that's frightening.
I never said anything about new hires. I said everyone will get more. Personally, I have a lot more issues with upgrades on OE than new hires. Upgrade is not a right. Study and come prepared.

New OE workbooks will be out soon too. They should be on link shortly after. Study, study, study.
Quote: Guys, don't sell yourselves short. Upgrade should be paid at the award date. That applies pressure to get you into training as soon as possible. I was held for three months, flying my nice FO line at Captain rates. You guys want more sims? Paying a lot of FOs as Captains because of training backlogs is a great incentive. And hell, even if the new sims never come, you still win.
I agree, however, we have much larger issues to handle first. We have captains being paid like FO's after they are signed off.
Quote: I certainly don't have a problem with 35hrs for CA OE, but 35 for an F/O does kind of seen a bit excessive
I guess I feel the opposite about it. New to the A320 and NK, I get needing a few extra hours. Captain OE? You should be able to figure it out quickly.

Well, we got people going to UPGRADE without even knowing the basics. (Mem items, lim, etc)

I guess. I think I'm just slightly intimidated because I've never been a CA before. Though I have flown with some CAs that really scare the sh*t out of me and If they can do it, so can I

I'm pretty excited about it and will come more than prepared but when the honeymoon stage wears off I'll realize I'm making less than my 3rd year F/O buddies at AA and depression will set in

I have heard the stories and that's unacceptable but those issues should get sorted out long before oe.

You better come prepared, I've got my eye on your upgrade!

You'll be fine. Go in knowing the stuff they tell you to know. Once you're out on OE, just use common sense, take it slow, and reference all that experience you've racked up in various right seats over X years.
What's the latest on the IAH base rumor?

Let me clarify something about upgrade OE. I can't teach you experience. But I can teach you how to make good decisions and that comes from the knowledge of the systems, manuals and procedures. I'll dig deep into the books and get you to think and form a plan, coordinate with MOC, DX and everyone else to make a timely and educated decision. You will make mistakes but that's how you gain experience.

I know you can fly the bus. Upgrade isn't about flying it. It's about managing everything else that comes with the job. And I'll be damn sure you're ready to put up with this $hit show. Because normally we aren't the last line of defense, we're the only line.
