Quote: There you go again. How is it clear? Who engineered it? Why?
You see, to me, your claims seems to be made up slander, which in my opinion hurts us as a pilot group.
Slander? Really? How ya figya?

So, if this is the way ALPA does voting for Reps, why hasn't this process or rule already been changed? What if I happen to be flying that day, my vote doesn't count? I'm paying dues for crying out loud, you work for me ALPA, NOT the other way around.
Hello ALPA, the 1930's called, they'd like their bits of charcoal and parchment paper back. What are they worried about, hanging chads?
This has to be about the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. You're shutting out a whole base and everyone else that doesn't live in LAS or isn't there on that particular day from choosing their Rep. Is this really the intention of ALPA or the Spirit MEC?
At least hold the vote over a couple of days or some other workable solution to make sure pilots have opportunity to cast their votes.

I'll let you figure it out yourself, Lemonade.

Nevertheless, it is a valid point that ALPA by-laws or whatever governs the way we do things, could need an update to take advantage of modern day technology. ALPA is our union, it is up to us to work for those kind of changes.
Seriously, some of you really should open the constitution and by-laws before throwing around accusations of MEC conspiracies!

Quote:
(3) When a vacancy occurs as in (1) and (2) above, it shall be filled by election of an Interim Status Representative as follows: The Local Council Chairman shall call a Local Council meeting for the purpose of nominating and electing an Interim Status Representative. The Local Council, at that session, shall nominate and shall elect by secret ballot such Interim Status Representative to temporarily fill the existing vacancy.
Quote:
G. PROXIES

Proxies for a Local Council meeting must be in writing, from an Active member in good standing, and for the specific subjects listed on the published agenda. Stated on the proxy must be the name of the person issuing the proxy, the person to whom issued, and the subjects covered by the proxy. No member shall be able to vote more than three (3) proxies. Proxies may be used in any vote by secret ballot in a Local Council meeting except those votes enumerated in Section 3E of this Article.
Quote:
E. VOTING

At all meetings of a Local Council, all questions coming before such Council shall be decided by a majority vote of the Local Council members in attendance (including valid proxies except as provided in the following sentence) and each Active Local Council member in good standing shall have one (1) vote. Proxies may not be used for secret ballots required in Article III, Section 2E(3) (Interim Status Representatives); Article III, Section 7A(1) (Nomination of Representatives); Article IV, Section 2B (Strike Votes); Article IX, Section 7B (Assessments), and ALPA's contract ratification procedures.
And before you say the MEC should make a special consideration or election process for this case, doing so could be in violation of federal law...

Directly from the Department of Labor website...

Frequently during the term of office, a union official will resign or a vacancy will occur for some other reason, such as the death of the incumbent. The act is silent on the specific point of what should be done in filling the unexpired term of office. A union may therefore fill such a vacancy by using the procedure provided in its constitution and bylaws. The procedure should comply with the general standards of union procedure set forth in title I (the bill of rights) of the LMRDA or 29 CFR 458.2.
As best I can tell, they are following the rules. If you want to take part in the vote, get to the meeting. If you think the rules need to be amended, run for LEC and go to the next BOD meeting and present a resolution for changing them.
Wait ... So you're saying the entire ALPA National Constitution and Bylaws were all set-up decades ago specifically to disenfranchise the DFW based pilots of Spirit Airlines?

That truly IS a conspiracy!

It's nice to see that 4-5 DFW pilots on this forum are up in arms over this, but could care less that the last 2 MEC meetings were held in secret, preventing ANY DFW based pilots (or anyone else, for that matter) from attending.
Eric,

I learned long ago not to waste time using facts, laws, language, etc. when arguing with these guys. They all are aware of the by-laws. As a matter of fact, one of the most vocal is a previous MEC Chair. He definitely knows better. These guys look for anything they can to undermine our leadership and convince a few newbies to join their cause. Its sad, really.
The funny thing is that most wearing the tin foil hats aren't even Dallas based most likely
I just heard that due to the uproar the council 77 interim captain rep election is being moved to Bone Daddy's DFW! You heard it here first!

Oh really? So the overwhelming majority of Council 77 DFW pilots won't be afforded a chance to vote is not a problem? Speaking of Bylaws...find this one...I'm sure you have a copy, Captain.

"The following shall be complied with during Local Council meetings: where applicable, due to the size of the Council, or availability of membership, and in order to allow the maximum number of members to attend a meeting, the meeting may be divided into two (2) or more sessions. Each meeting having more than one session shall discuss the same items on the published agenda, and in case of new business at the first session, such new business shall be discussed at the remaining sessions of the meetings. Any vote taken on any matter of business must be a compilation of the voting on that matter of business of all sessions. Voting at second or subsequent sessions must be confined to the issues voted upon at the first session, including votes to table, amend, etc."

How about that mate?

It says may, not must. Reading is fundamental.

I too agree the bylaws need to be updated to allow for e-voting in these instances. However, to insinuate that the MEC is not following the bylaws is inflammatory nonsense.

In closing, get your whining @ss to the meeting if its so important to you!
