Its getting to be time to replace the mommy mobile. Mrs Scambo has narrowed her desires to the Honda crv, the toyota rav 4, and the kia sportage. All 2wd all midrange trim levels. I have done the online research, just wondering about anyone's personal experiences with the above vehicles.

Has she seen the new Escape / Vertex? The Echo Boost engines are four or so years ahead of the tech used in the competitor's models you're choosing between. They have some neat features for the Mrs. like doors that open by sliding your foot under the door.

Both Toyota and Honda are doing styling refreshes on the models you mentioned. When you see the new models, you want to avoid the ugly duck 2011's. The RAV4 has available third row seating.

Or, find yourself a 1999 to 2003 BMW 5 Series (E39) wagon, preferably a 528 or 530 with the slide out tray in back. More utility than a truck, drives better than a new too heavy BMW. ... Or try to sell her on a Subaru WRX (2009's my choice). Drive the WRX and any of the new Corolla or Civic on tall struts lose their appeal and the WRX is every bit as functional.

If serious about a new Mini SUV, why not the Mini Clubman, or a Evoque? Range Rover Evoque - Pulse of the City project / Welcome to the Range Rover Evoque Pulse of the City project

Life is short, don't drive boring cars. Any of these will run 150,000 miles with regular maintenance. The question is, will you want to drive it that long?

P.S. I'll also second the Mazda recommendation. Their new CX-5 with the diesel (if they bring it here) will be cool. I've found Mazda to be bullet proof and have owned three MX-5's, four RX-7's and the wife's current car is a 6 hatch. Probably put 500,000 trouble free miles on these.

The Mazda SUV's are not quite competitive on mileage. They are revamping their engine line up and newer models with the Sky Active engines will see quite an improvement.
