Quote: Great ribs next door. Rendevouz. Pretty good for a guy living up North.

It's been years since I ate there... but I wasn't too impressed with Rendevouz. The ribs were tasty. But for $13 (and this was quite a few years ago), I'll bet I didn't get more than 1/8 pound of meat off those ribs. I went away hungry. I went one more time and got the pulled pork sandwich that time. It was okay but nothing to write home about. The next layover, I was relaying my experience with Rendezvous to the van driver and he suggested Neely's BBQ as being way better. It's about a 15 minute walk from the hotel (wouldn't do it at night). I think the BBQ is much better there. Still not up there with the best Memphis BBQ places though (none of which are downtown). But if you go to Neely's, you gotta try the "Sock-it-to-me" cake for dessert! Yummy!!!
Blue's City BBQ is where it's at!
Quote: I was taking a look at 73 open time and CAE is in there for ATL guys - its a 9 hour overnight now. But why a 73 and not an 88 for that route? Odd but I guess we need to get used to 73s doing 88 type routes.

Now if you 73 guys want to give up CHS we'll gladly take that off your hands. it's a cross we will bear for everyone.

BDL did suck. PVD is one of the nicest, so is PWM. WTH happened with BUF?

Now if we have to stay downtown why are we where we're at in DFW? IAH has a great workout room but that is way too far, pick a better downtown in Houston, they've got like 7 to pick from.
CAE used to be RJ's so it is a move in the right direction.

The MEM hotel has changed and it's much nicer.
Bill Swellbar is at it again:

He opines:...How dumb American pilots are, for not settling with the company and offering up concessions, blah, blah, blah, and then this:

Quote:
Delta’s pilots will have the richest compensation package in the industry after American completes its bankruptcy negotiations. That means they won’t have any leverage over the company even as pilots squawk about the liberal scope clause in the current agreement.

gotta love it, I bet he'll be on retainer...

Cheers

Quote: I agree. I've always heard that the downtown thing is for the senior international guys. Domestically, I don't think its that big a deal and, in fact, is oftentimes a pain in the ass. See an NYC layover at the dumpy downtown place when you land at JFK at 5:00 PM on a Friday and have 12 hours. Two hours later, you get to the dumpy downtown hotel.

Our best domestic downtown is BOS.
There are some int'l layovers that going downtown is worse, or at least no more beneficial, than staying near(er) to the airport. Sometimes it depends on your layover plans, sometimes the length of the van ride, sometimes there is plenty of stuff to do nearer the airport.
Quote: Looks like the nerf bat is coming for the SWA guys. Sure hope the Tranny guys are happy with that.

Nu

I wonder if that is part of the script.

I know there are a lot of personal preferences and different ideas when it comes to BBQ. I didn't care for Blue's City BBQ's BBQ. But they have a sign up in there that says, "world's best tamales." At the suggestion of the guy I was flying with, I tried those tamales. I think their sign might be right!!!

...and the CAE commuters rejoice

Buzz, pm me where we stay now. Can I still walk to the Flying Saucer???? Beer and hot chics......what else do you need on a layover?

Blue's City is def my favorite with Corky's coming in second- that and the yummy red potatoes. Not a fan of rendevous.

And by the way, your new Avatar is perfect.
