Brother, you should see me from the front. Yummy!

In all seriousness, I just spoke to a buddy flying relief to Haiti, the locals are saying 50,000 orphans. Please do what you can to help.

Keep an eye on MD-11 pairing 2308 of the 22nd.

We'll soon find out who Chuck (ummm, the company) considers to be reliable enough. Be alert for the possible presence of a videographer. It may just be that none of us are photogenic enough.

Quote: They do it because they need someone they can rely upon to make it to move the plane without getting a deviation failure, or checking in for their trip that leaves from Denver while they are still snowbound in Detroit. They also need people that are smart enough to get rest whenever they can so that they can safely operate past when most of you would be whining to go to the hotel or stop the jet because you didn't get what you ordered on your catering.

These people in Haiti aren't going to be late on their house payment because of poor planning and 4A2b. They don't have homes. They aren't worried about what their daughters are going to drive to the preppy college this year. They are digging them out from under a pile of rubble.

When you need the TD you give the ball to the ones that perform.
Wow --- heard about this post from a buddy.

The "goodwill train" just keeps rolling along here at FEDEX.

Ah, remember "you reap what you sow".

Please someone tell me Chuck is ex-military...or that he's at least done a previous relief effort of this magnitude in his civilian life.

I wonder if he realizes the background of most FEDEX pilots.

...yeah, just a bunch of slackers who've never stepped up to the plate and served in major relief efforts or all out conflicts/wars.

Incredible!

Quote: Chuck,

....But since you made this statement as a FedEx Manager, I’m curious as to what you’re implying. If a crew believes that in the interest of safety the best choice would be to deviate to an alternate airport your telling us, and the rest of the public on this board, is that management at FedEx views this as a personal failure of the crew. Interesting to say the least....
Interesting observations Chunkylove.

It seems many are often worried about how posts in these forums may somehow find their way into litigations one day.

Given that, I wonder if FEDEX lawyers approved Chuck's post.

Chuck.....I hate to break it to you, like FedEx Express.....most of the pilots on this property are a "For Profit" operation. With the exception of the Humanitarian donation efforts, we are not doing this to save lives, defend our country, or fend off disaster...........we do what we do to make the corporation (and shareholders) a pile of cash. Out of that pile of cash, we get a small portion of it. In return for that remuneration, we have the responsibility to abide by our contract and be good employees.

Is proper catering essential when someone's life is on the line? Can we find creative solutions to crew duty times when we are saving lives?......I think we all know the answer to that........and Chuck, most of us have lived it repeatedly.

I'd wager that nothing we do at FedEx covered under the CBA meets the criteria above. Those applying the "God and Country" standard to commercial operations are the victims of emotionalism, hubris, and poor judgement. They ought to have their own special paragraph in an Enders report.

Anyone in management who'd attempt to confuse performance levels required in life-saving contingency operations and daily "for-profit operations" (the goal... only to line the shareholder's pocket) is either stupid or disingenuous.

Rather than let you take your pick, I will assume your statements were made tongue-in-cheek, brought on by the snide remarks about management pilots. In which case, I will congratulate you for successfully stirring the pot.

Our requirements are not obstacles to FedEx profitability....they are essential to FedEx profitability......because without them....we don't go.....and if we weren't essential, then we wouldn't get more desperate calls at 0300 than Hillary Clinton.

Remember.....it is just business.....No buck....no Buck Rogers.
...Shack!!

Just wondering what goes thru Chuck's mind as he reads all of these responses.

(...and we all know he's looked at every one.)

My guess is that good ole Chuck is currently trying to figure out how he can forward the notion that he left his profile open and somebody accessed his APC account only to make him look like an a$$. They did an excellent job!

I know after reading our esteemed manager's opinion of us lowly line swine I'll be extra motivated to help next Ops emergency or disruption. Go Team.!!! Go Purple! Beat Brown! Put me in Coach!! I can score a TD as well. Yeaaah!

I think they sent me a management pilot uniform parka, by mistake...The top of the tag on the neck says "Made for Heroes".

Does this mean I'm in the trusted club that can operate humanitarian flights? Or, do I need to know the secret handshake, as well?
