Quote: Any insights as to where new hires will likely be based? How does IAH stack up to the other bases? I've worked with a retired Atlas pilot at CAE Simuflite and he always spoke very highly of Atlas, now that I'm above their minimums I'm looking to apply...but couldn't feasibly do it if I were to be based in ANC.
IAH is extremely senior.

...ANC is extremely junior.

But atleast you don't have to worry about commuting?

ANC for the 747. CVG for the 767. 767 should become the junior airplane starting this fall.

It's completely feasible. Company buys a ticket for your commute. Granted, some bases may be more convenient for you. Just bid what you want, commute stress-free with a paid ticket until you get the base you'd like. Good luck.

Quote: IMO you may be overthinking what drives decisions at Atlas HR. My guess would be that lowering mins is a result of fewer resumes, some pilots pulling out of interviews and class dates, and the exit interviews of the pilots who have already left. Simple math.

Beyond that, my recent unscientific poll of the younger pilots here indicates that (surprisingly) there are many folks that I would consider highly likely to move over to the majors who have decided to remain at Atlas ... at least for the time being. Atlas seems to interview and hire a broad spectrum of applicants. Consequently, the retired military pilots who already have a pension will probably stay, the older previously furloughed 121 cargo pilots will probably stay, and of the younger crowd who would theoretically jump ship, quite a few it seems simply like flying for Atlas and may stay (at least until they see what the next contract provides - this will be a critically important event for our pilot group).

Thanks for the info. I threw my stuff in just for the hell of it. Im only at 1550tt-- 2+ years Part 121 (1250 turbine multi); ATP, CFI; 141 University Degree; E170/190, SF340, BE1900 Types. Not very competitive, but who knows...

Quote: Most 767 folks can come over and hold a decent quality of life in most bases on the 747 along with the pay bump that goes with it with 3+ years seniority.
You mean working 17 days, or working 17 days???

Thanks for the info everyone...didn't realize the company bought a ticket, making a commute much less stressful. I'll be putting in my app this week, I'm above the mins, but still fairly low on TT. Hopefully three PIC type ratings, two SIC ratings, and a Masters Degree in Aviation Technology will make up for my lack of TT.

If said ticket and hotel are at your base, you will be taxed on it as if it were income.

Travel at the beginning of your pattern is on your time off thus making some months 18 days or so.

I'm not trying to be rude, but use the "search this thread" function and use key words such as "gateway", "home basing", etc. Its a pretty standard quuestion on the phone interview if you understand the gateway system, schedules, etc.

Also, TT, type ratings, etc isn't really factor. All experience levels are interviewed and hired.

Then read the ENTIRE thread to get a grasp on EXACTLY what working for Atlas entails.

It's like the old NBC slogan, "The more you know............"

Thank you, I'll do that.
