Lighten up guys - SWA is a great company and they are making $$$$ like everyone else. The day SWA loses money..... we are all in trouble.

There goes Tsquared hatin' SWA again...... why all the bitterness, again. If one searches your posts, you seem to hate on SWA quite a lot........ I wonder why?

hmmmmmmmmmm,

I certainly don't hate SWA, but 2nd quarter performance was not good. $112 million net profit on 3.2 billion in revenue equals a margin of 3.5%. UAL and DAL margins were 5.7%. 15 Cents per share is also not great. It means SWA has way too many shares outstanding. They need to stop handing those shares out like candy.

While these earnings weren't great, SWA has relatively low debt and 3.4 Billion in unrestricted cash. That comes from being a well run company for a long time.

Wow! Obviously it was a good quarter for all the airlines and not especially a good quarter for SWA. They had less profits than UAL and CAL!? That doesn't sound too typical or too good.

Lots of chest thumping and horn tootin' going on here. Just remember, SWA will also post profits the next two quarters while every other airline resumes record breaking losses and dole out record breaking bonuses to their execs.

I am not sure about resuming record breaking losses ( I hope not) but I would not be one bit surprised with record breaking bonuses.

Heyas,

SWA $216M on 3.2B revenue
LCC $265M on 3.2B revenue

I think I read somewhere that the day LCC makes more money than SWA in a quarter, that it's a sign of the apocalypse.

DAL and UAUA posted a great quarter, arguably based largely on international travel. This, despite a volcano that shut down most of Europe this spring.

Wonder what the numbers would have been without THAT disruption...

The hedges didn't run out, they are actually upside down, cost the company over $100 million of the profit. SWA still owes a lot of money on bad hedges, and this will be holding SWA down for a little while. Just glad they made some money and we all have jobs. Getting a little interesting over there with the FO vs CA who should get paid in the next contract talks. Still a good place to work, but no longer the place to be. Just reality.

Just general observation but I've noticed an increase in SWA fares (which needed to happen). They aren't the cheapest everywhere anymore.

PS. UAL appears to be the champ this round.
