I don't consider myself low cost or cheap, but I would consider Delta pilots to be. Any of you big equipment operators
want to post your pay total for July? Thought not, I'll stick with my puny all domestic podunk operation. That
legacy stuff is far too compericated for me. I'd have a much harder time balancing my check book.
SWA pilots have been cheaper and compensated less than almost any other major narrowbody operator until about 6 years ago. Leading for 6 out of the last 35 years isn't exactly what I'd call a spectacular record.....

And only becoming the leader by the others' taking a paycut cut doesn't exactly make anyone really want to follow SW's lead. Sorry.

SW pilots have been undercutting the industry for 29 out of the last 35 years, don't be so quick to throw stones, glass house owner.

We have 737 & 320 FO's making that & then some this summer. Very doable. We have 320 CAs pulling WB paychecks this summer. We had a 744 CA make $40K last month by working the contract.

BTW, you can thank the Legacies for your payrates. Who do you think your rates were based on.

Talk about chest thumping.

And I guess a DAL pilot can't?

You're entitled to your opinion, as am I. I personally prefer variety, especially if I'm doing this job for 40 years.

Just a little perspective, that's all. It's good news that Delta is making money, it bodes well for everybody. Who knows what the better job is, that would be like arguing which car is the best - depends on what you want.

And for both of us, Mr. Moderator - neither of us are in the left seat. 40 years in the right seat would suck no matter how much you're making or where your overnights are.

Both jobs are awesome jobs IMO. Each job fits people differently. If you're happy, that's all that matters. IMO.

LuvJockey,

Please understand that I think SWA is no doubt a fantastic airline from BOTH a customer & business point of view. I was simply making the point that from a entire airline standpoint LUV is not comparable to DAL, UAL, AA, CAL, etc because their mission is not the same.

That's pretty funny there Shiznit - who's throwing stones? Time to bring the industry average higher. You can talk about what used to be all you want - flight attendants used to all be hot chicks - doesn't mean anything now.

To the rest, great careers, either path. I would have been happy to work at Delta, SWA, or FedEx. SWA called first, and it's been great. And yes, I certainly thank the legacies for the professional pay scale of the past - here's to higher rates in the future and not hoping the worst for each other.

How do you know we're cheap and easy?

$45,851 through the end of July, senior reserve on the 88 on 3rd year pay. I bid down to have weekends off, flew 286 hours and worked 10 days per month on average thus far, normally 2-3 trips a month. Very lazy. Probably the lowest paid guy around.

And I never paid for a type rating. No PFT here.

Luv, you're a good sport.

Have to disagree. Flying jets and making a six-figure income--from either seat--doesn't "suck."

Roofing, concrete, laying asphalt, and stocking shelves, are four among a thousand jobs I can think of that, as you say, suck.

In the immortal words of Gunnery Sergeant Foley, the proverbial "sitting in a chair pushing buttons" doesn't. C'mon....some perspective here.
