Quote: It won't even delay your dream. They won't see if you were a juvenile. Don't listen to all the BS out on here where people say they will find out. Go run your own FBI check and I bet you a million it isn't on there(unless you were finger printed for the crime). I however would disclose it but sugarcoat it a bit. But the other poster is right every state has different laws recording juvenile records. Hire a company to do your own check first and go to the FBI.gov and pay the fee to run your then you decide.

Hell I know a guy with a recent DUI's that have got hired. Another buddy with a recent suspend license was also hired. mistakes when your a juvenile is a no factor. Just tell the interviewer it was your friend and you were along for the ride. But own up to it.

There ya go.

I apologize if I've angered you somehow. I'm new to these forums and I've posted out of desperation for some information regarding this issue of mine. I understand there are many people who come onto these forums and ask the same question. Again, I didn't mean to get you mad or annoyed in anyway.

No, No. My anger was not directed to you at all. It was that we have discussed this topic many times and the wrong advice that is dished out to people.

I would never go onto a law enforcement forum asking about approach speeds on an EMJ. :)

I could almost imagine the veins popping out of your head.
Maybe a stiff drink to calm the nerves?

To the OP...

Assuming that is your only criminal blackmark, and that it takes you 4 years of college and then three years of training/CFI before you apply to an airline it should not hurt you much even if the airline did find out about.

But keep your record clean from here on out...a trend or pattern is much worse than a isolated youthful incident.

citation35hf is probably correct regarding civilian employers, but keep in mind that if you ever apply for a military, intelligence, or law enforcement job they will want FULL disclosure. The DoD and especially the intelligence community have a reasonable chance of finding juvie crimes because of the way they do background checks.

Quote: I'M GOING TO SAY THIS ONE MORE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! (YELLING AT THE TOP OF MY LUNGS)

AS LONG AS YOU WERE NOT CHARGED AS AN ADULT, THIS ARREST NEVER HAPPENED. LEGALLY YOU WERE NOT EVEN CHARGED WITH A CRIME. YOU WERE PETITIONED AS A MINOR.

MINOR ARREST/CONVICTIONS DO NOT ENTER INTO THE NCIC COMPUTER SYSTEM WHICH MAINTAINS ARRESTS/CONVICTION RECORDS FOR WHOMEVER TO SEE!!!!

AS A JUVENILE THE COURTS HAVE RULED THAT YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO PRIVACY THAT DOES NOT APPLY TO THOSE WHO HAVE REACHED MAJORITY (18 AND ABOVE).

SO WHEN ASKED IF YOU HAVE EVER BEEN ARRESTED....YOUR ANSWER IS NO!!!!

Yes, I typed this in all caps because we have discussed this before, and I litterally started pulling my hair out when I started reading everyone's "expert" advice.

ROFLMAO......reason being what USMCFLYR said about the veins popping out on your neck and forehead.

Seriously though, citation35hf, I'm one who certainly appreaciates what you bring to the table when it comes to legal issues here on this form. Straight talk! No BS.

Rick-

As a law enforcement officer if I run someone thru NCIC/IDACS any arrest that occurred when they were 18 years of age or older or if they were under 18 and the prosecuting attorney/district attorney had decided to charge them as an adult would show up. These under 18 year old arrest do not get put into the computer system.

Now, it is not to say that these documents do not exist in a file cabinet somewhere if I was arrested and charged as a minor. Nothing would keep whoever is doing a background investigation from contacting that court/prosecutor/etc and obtaining those files. It is just extremely difficult for them to locate the existence of them unless, of course, you disclose this to the person/employer asking.

Once again, I don't care if it’s the FBI, American Airlines, Secret Service, etc, if I had been arrested as a juvenile and charged on a juvenile, if asked if I had ever been arrested I would say... No. Just me though.

I endorse everything the cop said. I myself would never disclose my juvenile record. I had a few FBI type backround checks in my day and I can say nothing has ever showed. I can't even find records of my minor consumptions after 18. I will not disclose these anymore either. I see no point.

That's exactly what I mean about state laws being different. I personally know of at least one state where 17, not 18, is the age of majority for the purpose of criminal offenses. And I wouldn't be a bit surprised to learn there are states where it is lower.

So you can start yelling a bit more about your own "expert advice"

Right, you’re missing the point, also splitting hairs, the point is if you were charged as a JUVENILE or not is what we are discussing. Also the FBI is who regulates what is put into IDACS/NCIC, not local jurisdictional procedure.

*After further digging, the FBI only allows crimes committed above 18 years of age entered into NCIC, even if a local jurisdiction charges someone as an Adult.*
