Quote: Highlights
1. Full pay for deadheads
2. Full pay for all cancelled flights
3. Time and a half for all pick ups over your guarantee. So even if you are on reserve and only fly 20 hours and you pick up a 2 day trip that credits 12 hours you earn 18 hours over guarantee so you will be paid 103 hours that month (75+18)
4. 401K has a 5% match and a 3% contribution so if you put in 9% of your income the company puts in 8%. I made just over 100k last year and the company put $8000 in my 401K for me.
5. The health insurance is incredible. You pay almost nothing. I know guys that have had surgery and they pay $10, as in TEN one dollar bills.
6. Vacation trip touching. Any trip that touches your primary vacation is dropped and you can never drop below guarantee pay.
7. Trip rig 4:1 if you are out of base for 96 hours and only fly 20 you get at least 1/4 of 96 so you get paid 24 hours.
8. Duty rig 2:1 so if you are schedule 14 hours and only fly 5 you get at least 1/2 of 14 so your are paid 7 hours that day.
9. Everything is block or better on a leg by leg basis. over block your first leg by 10 minutes you bank it. Under block every other leg and you get the scheduled block time on those legs but keep the 10 minutes from the first leg.
10. If you have to sit ready reserve you have a private room at the airport with LAZY BOY chairs and TV or a hotel room. You don't sit in a crew lounge.

It goes on man. Don't just look at hour rates which ours are better than most $27 first year $39 2nd and are not capped after 4. We make lots of "soft" money that comes into play on points 1,2,7,8,9. Oh and if you get a trip dropped because they are using your trip for OE. You get sent home with full pay most places don't have that.

As far as PSA having a better deal in anyway shape or form I will let them give the details of the "deal" they signed.
Good post. Fact of the matter is that if you live in base, QOL is about as good as it gets for a regional FO. I have friends at other regionals with similar hire dates, and it just seems like a totally different experience based on what I hear from them.

no right now the people who are upgrading are in the 4-5 year range.

Quote: Are AWAC's upgrades really at seven(ish) years? If so, is that expected to change any?
Also, how long before a new FO would be able to hold ORF?

I am dropping apps in a couple of weeks and I like the contract (and local to ORF), but (currently) seven years seems like a long time... I am a mil pilot and would like to do the 121 thing, but reality for me is that if I cannot make it to a major/majorish carrier w/i four years then its not economically beneficial for me to do it.

Thank you in advance for information!
I would presume, as a military pilot, you have at least 1000 hours of AC time. If that's the case, put your apps in everywhere you want to work and if you get hired at AWAC, you can always quit to go elsewhere even if you have not yet upgraded to CRJ Captain.

If you don't have 1000 hours of AC time yet...don't punch out until you do - checking that box will open a LOT of doors.

Thanks, I deleted the post after searching the rest of site (figured the information would be in this post, but wasn't).

Does 4-5 years seem like it will be consistent?

Plus I know rumors are rumors, but if given the choice to start fresh again, would you start at AWAC looking at best guess for what your/their future holds? I would love to stay where I am and AWAC is the only way I can do that.

Ha! Would love to, but I am retiring. I don't have the option to stay any longer. I am too low time to be competitive for a non-regional gig. (~1450TT, 475PIC). Prior enlisted with one fleet squadron. So I have to go serve my penance somewhere to build time...

Upgrades are very very close to 4 years as of right now. Hiring is not expected to slow any.

If you have a TS and are interested in ISR CACI and L3 are both hiring. You have the hours to be a PC and would get 100 or so hours a month.

I thought about it, but most of the jobs that would give me those kinds of hours (I believe) require an extensive amount of time away from home (in large blocks vice a few days at a time). After this long in the military, I think my wife/kids are ready to see me at least a couple of times a week.

On a side note, how do positions like that play when applying to one of the mainline carriers?

Go to Trans States.. If you have the time super quick upgrade, maybe even street captains.
