Quote: Any intel on when the next round of off-the-street interview invitations will go out?
Does anyone know when the last offered interview dates were for this round? I would think that they will try to keep them going, so probably a fair amount of notice before that date.

Quote: I'm lucky enough to joining Delta in January (with possible hold back at Compass) having a high last 4 of ssn is just the icing on the cake. I would have been just as happy if my last 4 started with 0
No more 'bohica'. Welcome aboard, it will be great to see you here.

The SSN-based seniority assignment began prior to the 2007 hiring wave (therefore, it had to be sometime prior to 9/11.)

An interesting anecdote: I was in the July 2007 class and it was brought to our attention at the ALPA pizza and beer welcome party (day 2 or 3) that the company had been assigning seniority incorrectly. I distinctly remember the announcement, "One third of you are going to be really happy, one third of you are going to be extremely upset, and on third of you aren't going to care." Suddenly the plug in our class became the most senior (went from 88B to 737B.)
The company then went back to early 2007 and reassigned everyone's seniority number within their class. Since there were mutliple AE's and everyone was on first-year pay anywhere, it wasn't a big hurdle.

Officially: The higher last four, the happier pilot.

New invitations
Not sure it's 100% accurate or not, but one of the ladies who works in the hiring department told me that they are planning on sending out invitations in much smaller groupings than the first couple hundred that went out. 30-50 invites per week is what she said. I have a friend who received his invite a couple weeks ago so maybe this is accurate information.

That's good information. I had heard that they sent out that big group and then no more for a while, so I'd be curious to hear if they are slowly sending out more. Makes sense.

That may be, but up to the last class hired in 2001, sometime around April/May, it was DOB. I'm sure we gave up some negotiating capital during the BK years to switch over to SSN though.

I have heard that the "off the street" interviewees are all from the military. Can anyone confirm this? A Delta CA I know relayed that to me but I didn't think it was correct.

Disclaimer: Not to open a Mil vs Civ debate... only for informational purposes only! Besides... I was a Civ guy who went to the Mil then back to Civ... I'm ambidextrous!

I know personally of a Captain at American Eagle that was recently hired with no military background at all (and no it does not matter, only pointing out because you asked).

I think what's happening is the bottle has been shaken for the better part of 13+ years and as the cap is being slowly untwisted, the initial interview groups were mil heavy because the bulk "hired" are still going to be civvies due to the flows/guar interviews/double secret vault letters, etc.

Most "hired" even initially will still be civvie including the flows, so if there wasn't some degree of initial mil pref early on, mil applicants would largely be locked out for a while. I don't think its a matter of DL preffing mil pilots so much as it is DL specifically not preferencing any one type and desiring a diverse balance going forward, but essentially being forced to go mil heavy initially because of the flow sitch. As the flows max out summer of next year and (if) hiring continues in full swing, the make up of future interview groups will become more balanced.

There's a lot of good applicants out there and DL wants them, but to not pref mil to some degree now would essentially lock that sector out due to how the flows are structured especially early on.

The gene pool I saw at the interview was ~1/3 retiring or separating mil, 1/3 regional/foreign Capts, and 1/3 guard/reserves swinging both ways. Purely anecdotal but consistent with friends who interviewed on other days/weeks.
