Quote: Most of the post are old and things change very fast in aviation. I have the ATP written completed and only need to practice in a twin and take the checkride. Does anyone have a recommendation on where to train and test? Quality over price, and the ability to fly everyday until completion are most important.
im not sure where you live... but take a look here... they used to specialize in a quick turn for military trained pilots to an ATP...

Stay away from that stuff....

Call Bob Owsley in Dallas.....when he adds you to the google group for the study material, you will see exactly how many of your buds already went and saw him before you. His airplane is top of the line, autopilot, full glass, etc etc...couldn't have been more professional. 2 sorties total and you leave with ticket in hand as long as you can fly an airplane.

Sanders Aviation Jasper AL
I read the old post and thank you to the guys that responded to my request for information. I ended up going to Sanders and here are my thoughts.
1. The entire staff, from A&P to desk staff, to Instructors are all professional and friendly. I immediately felt at home. Mr Sanders is on site daily and he makes a point to interact with the students and insure that they have everything that they need.
2. The program is structured and time tested. Day one is half a day of ground followed by your first flight. They provide you all the materials you should focus on for the ride, including oral, systems, and how to set up for the flight maneuvers.
3. The Travel airs are well maintained, have modern Garmin G5 displays and G430's. The plane was much better to fly than the Seneca II I used for my Multi.
4. The Location is ideal because the airspace is wide open and you don't use hobbs time getting to and from a distant practice area or being vectored around competing traffic. I have previously trained at Addison TX and just getting in and out of the DFW airspace, or being number 20 for departure put a dent in my wallet.
5. The bunk house is a 3min walk to the airport. It and all the facilities are very clean and well stocked. I highly recommend staying there, you can't beat the price or location.
6. The checkride was completely by the book. No surprises or examiner trying to trick you or shake you up. You will fly every required maneuver, to PTS standards, and that was it. The instructors are experienced and they won't recommend you for a checkride if you are not ready so don't worry, just put the work in that is required.
7. The diversity of students was great. Never miss an opportunity to meet new people in aviation. We had people from there 20's to their 50's, some retired military, some not and they were all great people. Sanders works with Tuskegee so as an older guy, it was great to see young men and women, from the university come and go.
I'll shut up now. I just didn't want to be another "go there" post without telling you why. If I had known what I know now I would have done every rating at Sanders.

I just wanted to say thanks. I went ahead and reach out to Bob. I'm in the same boat as Gump, I need the ATP to be competitive.

ATP Practical complete Accessible Aviation
Like everyone on here I did a lot of research to find a Mil friendly ATP practical.I am seperating from active duty and needed a ATP quick. I had never flown General Aviation and most of my time was in the KC135. Most spots that advertise well are Booked out to about three months or more. I was able to get a spot at Accessible Aviation in Columbus MS in about two weeks and had a great experience. It is a military pilot friendly course that is great for anyone that needs to get the checkride done quick. They will teach you what you need to know to go from a military flying background to ATP checkride in less than a week. They also provide lodging for military. I would highly recommend Accessible Aviation to complete your ATP. My Evaluator was also former military and a great guy.

CAE Phoenix, anyone??
Is anyone familiar with CAE Phoenix for the ATP practical? Got hired to fly a 737-8 and company paying for ATP at CAE in Phoenix, just not sure about their reputation. If they aren't Mil friendly I will steer clear and pay out of pocket for a low-threat program. Want to start my 121 career on the right foot

Hey guys, this is my first post. I'm retiring military with little experience flying civilian. I used Mil2ATP in North Carolina and was very happy with their program. It was challenging but they prepared me well. I went there based on recommendation read while lurking here, and wanted to pass along a recommendation for anyone else considering them. cheers.

Quote: Is there a site out there which reviews ATP practicals? I've heard a couple of horror stories from some of my bros who went to an unnamed company well known for ATPs and said the DEs they used specifically mentioned how mil guys were taking THEIR jobs.

I'm not looking for a free pass, but I also don't want to check with a guy who has a bone to pick with military pilots "stealing" their jobs. I know that my civilian knowledge isn't what it could be, and that I'll be taking a check ride in a plane with 2-3 hours of experience, last thing I need is a check pilot who doesn't like me for my current job.

Thanks.

You should definitely check out Sheppard Air! It's what I used to pass my commercial. I've heard a ton of guys use it for their ATPs as well. I've also heard that there are some great check guys near UPT bases FYSA.
