Quote: Oh good for you, quit whining is sufficient, and I got news for you pal our demographic isn't exactly an oppressed put upon minority, and it's a pretty level field when you look at the total demographic make up of the U.S. airline/ cargo/ corporate pilot force. But if it makes you feel better by all means pout about it. The airlines are hiring thousands right now, thousands, and the vast majority hired look like Han Solo, not Princess Leia.
I thought Chewbacca was the first officer!

Just for the record, I'm happy when someone gets hired. Delta new hires, if I ever run into you anywhere, beers and dinner are on me. I was at the schoolhouse awhile back and went upstairs to see what new hires looked like, and get a cup of coffee. That place was frikkin humming. That is a beautiful thing. New hires just make me smile.

Quote: I'm just curious if you think total time is the be all/end all of qualification. Im not poo pooing your opinion at all, I agree affirmative action isn't the right answer. A lot of military (including me) are hired at a LOT lower total time. Why do you think that is?

And rightfully so that a military person get hired with " fewer" hours than civilian. The training & experience are completely different from civilian. But obviously the female in question was not military. ( she had a 2 yr degree.
A level playing field is all I'm saying.

I agree that a level playing field would be nice. However, without posting resumes its hard to know what else she has going for her. Trust me, I don't like thinking I got hired solely because I'm female any more than you like me getting hired solely because I'm female. I've spent 16 years so far in the military building my career which included a whole lot more than flight hours. I'm more than willing to show my resume to anyone to prove it.

The writing is on the wall that flight hours are not THE ONLY important thing. There's a min threshold, but that just gets you in the door. The writing is on the wall that they want to hire people with more than just flight hours. Safety, degrees, volunteerism, military experience (not necessarily mil flying always). You can spend a lot of time complaining about it, or you can get out there and diversify yourself to stand out. Your choice.

Well, she is much more qualified than regional FOs getting hired..At 24 her total time is 2600hours out of which 900 hours are on the A320 and 1400 hours are on the gulfstream5...Yes, she starting flying the A320 at 300 hours TT in Latin America...

And how exactly does that make someone "much more qualified" than a regional FO? Are their thousands of hours somehow useless? Are CRJs and ERJs not transport category airplanes flying for airlines? There are plenty of regional FOs that have more than 2300 hours in jets and in 121 ops. Ask any 8-year XJT or Eagle (or former Comair) pilot that have more than 6000 hours stuck in the right seat. Are they less qualified than a 24 year old who upgraded after 6 months at a smaller, growing regional? Absolutely not, in my opinion. I fail to see how some people can look so far down their noses at regional FOs, which I think you do based on your statement.

Honestly guys and gals, how does all this help move the thread along? I sub'ed to the post just wanting to hear "Who's been hired?" and hopefully be able to gauge by their qualifications when I will be hired.

I think we all just want to know what the companies are looking for. Leave the opinions of who's training is more valuable up to the interviewers. To be honest, from what I have seen, it's not number of hours, or where those hours were flown... it's getting to that interview and proving that you (all of you, hours, grades, appearance, demeanor, etc...) are worth the chance at a career of a lifetime.

Take it easy. Soon enough we'll all be on the same team helping each other out. Let's not be quick to pass judgement, respect what others have worked hard for and try to help each other out any way possible.

I know 3 regional pilots interviewed at delta with less than 2600. Not one of them had generational family at Delta and not one of them had PIC time. All three were solid people and well rounded individuals - especially one of them.

2 were hired (who happened to be married). 1 slipped during the interview. I think they all were 27 or 28.

There is always someone younger hired than the lady 24 yr old people are complaining about. They just happen to NOT end up on one of these forums.

Is it unfair - possibly. Does it matter to you - no. Why, bc your name and number didn't call so keep trying. There are thousands of regional pilots with thousands of 121 hours who do the EXACT same flying as most mainline counterparts and these regional pilots make far less than mainline/military.

Many of them will not get the call until later.

If you haven't gone to a job fair - stop posting. If you have flown on a commercial flight and didn't bother any pilots you past OR the flight crew that operated your flight - stop complaining. Those were/are missed opportunities to make connections and network.
