Advice--Daughter interviewing with SkyWest
My daughter completed her flight instructor hours and is starting to interview with regionals... the first one is Sky West. Can someone please detail the steps in the process, let's assume she gets a job offer-- what happens next? Ground school? How long? Uninterrupted or breaks in between? They told her ground training is 10 weeks...Do pay & benefits kick in immediately after signing new hire paperwork? (i.e., does she get paid, etc during ground school?) Then something called IOE? That is 90 days, correct? She said she wants to fly the ERJ?
Sorry for all the questions.. we are a non-pilot family.. so all this is new and my wife and I want to understand all aspects of her career. Thank you..

Pay starts from the first day of ground school. If she needs the CTP course, she will be paid for the CTP course but not for the break between CTP and first day of ground. Once she starts ground, she will be paid regardless of how many breaks there are in training.
Ground school, including Indoc, is about 3 weeks. There may or may not be a break between ground school and sim. Simulator can last 3 weeks and has a few days off throughout. The wait for IOE can vary, anywhere from 5 days to 6 weeks, just depending on availability of Line Check Airmen. IOE is actually flying the airplane and she will accumulate approximately 50 hours more or less of flight time. IOE is takes about 3-5 weeks once she starts. Once she finishes IOE, she will be released on the line to fly trips with various captains.

IOE can be out of any domicile for that aircraft. They will deadhead around if necessary. You can request specific check airman for IOE and they will try to accommodate.

IOE is flying the plane so IOE trips will start and end at any E175 base (if she chooses the E175). These bases are SEA, PDX, SFO, SAN, LAX, DEN, ORD, and BOI. The flights will take here all across the US, Canada, and Mexico. She can request a specific base for her IOE trips but it’s not a guarantee, just a request.

CTP is required if she has not already taken the CTP class.
She can request IOE from Chicago, and if she is initially domiciled in a Chicago and they have a trip for her in a different domicile, they will fly her to and from that city for IOE.

Consider having her choose the CRJ. It’s junior and has quicker movement and more flying right now than the ERJ. It’s a quicker upgrade too and it’s easier to learn the aircraft you are on when you go from FO to captain for the first time. Pay starts day 1 in either SLC for the CRJ or DEN for the ERJ. Jumpseating is available almost right away. Delta benefits take 30 days to kick in (if available) and United kicks in at 2 weeks.
