As a recent hire (June 2018), it's not always quite as bad as that - it just depends what you want. I needed Tuesdays off to meet with a client, for example, and have always been able to get that. I've also only had one instance where I wanted another day off but couldn't get it.

I suspect it depends heavily on the base, too - MSP and ORD are going to be different than FAT or PSP. Does that seem right?

Default No, it sucks.

True, you can bid for days off like the example given, but you’ll also be given weeks of 5/2...we don’t have 5 day trips so what’s the point. In addition the 5/2 assignments make it impossible to pick up any open time. Reserve sucks(Feb. 2017 hire) in a shrinking base.

You can certainly pick up locals during the '2' of a 5/2; I've done this many times but it does require living it base. But I get your point - 5/2 makes it impossible to pick up 2/3/4 day trips.

I'm pretty much on top of the other reserves, seniority-wise. I find I prefer long call to a junior line. But anyways...

You wrote...

I did in fact read that; my point was that it is not always true as it wasn't true at all in my case. I've *never* had an issue getting the day off I needed and bid for, even when I was on the bottom of the list. It just depends on what you want, the base, etc.

Clearly, reserve transparency is gone.

Well, I can't dispute what you're saying of course since it's a completely different time and situation. I guess I didn't think junior reserve was all that bad - the stuff I didn't like was things along the lines of endless OBRs, lots of ready sits, and so on - the usual stuff that I'm sure everyone dislikes. Were OBRs a big thing with hard line reserves as well?

How are reserve times in DFW? Also what is the maximum number of hours you can sit ready reserve in one day?

Hey,

I’ve been offered a position with OO and MSP is my preferred base. Thankfully it seems pretty junior but I’m trying to figure out some things about the base and wondering if you guys could answer some questions.

- I saw on a previous thread that FOs are currently on reserve for 6-8 months before they get a line in MSP. Is this still true? Is reserve time increasing or decreasing?

- How many days off per month will an FO average in MSP on reserve versus when they hold a line?

- How long to hold a line as a CA in MSP?

Thank you in advance to anyone who answers.

Really depends when you hit the line... right before summer flying you may never see reserve... hiring increases to 56 NH’s CRJ every 2.5 weeks in june. I wouldn’t worry about line or upgrade. It will happen fast.. realy depends on your flight time right now..
