Thank you! Keep trying to “polite pester” I like to say. I emailed my recruiter again yesterday and basically said I’ll be done in Jan with my hours and can’t wait to hear back. Got a call a few hours later.

I went ERJ. Yes, later class date but QOL is big to me and I wanna head back to the PNW which are most of their junior bases. Hoping people don’t show up to class dates and can get bumped up earlier.

Looking at horizon v skywest as I live in seattle. Skywest is looking much more attractive these days.

Random question for those at Skywest, is there any kind of paternity leave in place beyond FMLA? Thanks!

This is an example of what social media posting can tell about a person as well. You've got less than two dozen posts here and I'd be able to easily figure out who you are if I were on the interview team. Not that you have posted anything bad, but plenty of other posters have. I remember years ago when a specific poster here had a job offer rescinded from something they had posted on this website. SkyWest management definitely follows what's going on here, and on the FB pages.

Third thing, I think the regional job market is tightening up. We need captains, not FOs. The number of new hires being put through training is decreasing.
Something about that poster doesn’t add up. Says he has a clean record, but then mentions an accident in an earlier post. That’s not the kiss of death like it use to be, but it is if you don’t own up to it.

Hey All,

Does anyone have an idea on how long it takes to be based in IAH on the 175 right out of training? I will be starting next month and would love to be based in IAH. How long can I expect to sit reserve? Also, is anyone familiar with how mil leave works? Thanks!

It's gonna be a while. There are only 40 ERJ FO's in Houston right now. The most junior one is a 3600#, so they've probably been on property 10mos or so (rough guess). There were 30 targeted lines for December, so you'd effectively have to move up the list in base by another 25% to be off reserve.
Of course, just adding a few lines changes everything.

Not long at all. After 1.5 years eligible pilots get sent to upgrade.

10 months is considered a while to hold a base. My how the times have changed.

Thanks for the prompt response! When you say “it’s going to be a while”, are you talking about getting assigned to IAH or being able to hold a line (off reserve)? Also, my hiring date is Aug 2021 when I joined as a cadet - in what ways does this help me in ground school/sim? Do I have a better shot at getting my first choice for a sim block and base assignment? What does a normal reserve schedule look like, how many days will I have to sit reserve and how many days do I get off in between? I’m just trying to paint a solid picture for my wife and kids. Thanks again!

My guess is they are referring to getting IAH. It is the most senior ERJ FO base. There are quite a few in my class that want to go there… Right about the time you are holding a line at whatever “junior base” that was assigned to you…you will transfer and be sitting reserve again in IAH. Your plan will put you on reserve a lot longer than some. If you live there, it is totally worth it! If you live in base, sitting reserve is great for those with a family…especially Long Call Reserve. Your cadet status will get you “class seniority.” It really makes a difference with sim schedules. It helps a little with your initial base assignment…study which bases would be the easiest commute/most junior and prioritize them. As things sit now, it could be the difference between SLC, BOI or PDX.

Your Cadet hiring date is NOT your Pilot Seniority. Your Pilot Seniority will be Day 1 of Indoc (or the first day you start with SkyWest after you complete your ATP/CTP class). You will bid your base and vacation and monthly schedules based on you Pilot Seniority Date.

Your Cadet Date is the seniority date used when riding standby on a pass, on flights by United & Delta (after their employees go they put the regional airline employees on based on company seniority date).
