When I get through training, I'd like to fly more than sit on reserve at home and not be used.

What metric are you asking?

I heard rumors of the msp base shrinking the crj routes, so I'd like to choose a base that has consistent flying and won't disappear if I move there for a year and sign an apartment lease or something. Is this happening with other bases?

*Also side note, does SkyWest ever convert anyone from the crj to the erj before upgrade training? I originally picked erj but switched when they canceled all the classes. I read the handbook and know there's a two year freeze period, but things are constantly changing.

If you look into your crystal ball, how long before us junior fo actually get to fly? By my account, there’s maybe 100 under me and maybe another 100 who have a training date of some kind. But the days of 20-70 fo on reserve have me thinking about staying at home…why bother being in base? Edit ER7 SLC

There are rumors about all sorts of things. Make your best decision based on the current information you have. MSP has been around forever, has both fleets, and is not likely to disappear anytime soon, on either fleet.

If you are too junior to hold a line and will be stuck on reserve, you will likely need to live in base in order to make it to work when you are called in on 2-hour notice. When there are multiple people on reserve, the call out priority does not always go in order of reverse seniority.

Which bases have route to Mexico or Canada? (or anywhere outside of United States)

one of my friends work in Atlanta but he says he can never get out of the U.S.

wondering if the bases I want also don't have any routes like that

I'm thinking of Denver, Colorado Springs, and Dallas later

DEN COS and DFW all fly international to some degree, but usually it goes junior because there's no extra pay and most people hate flying to Canada. Mexico isn't so bad if you can get it, just have to remember that ATC doesn't provide terrain or weather avoidance for you.

Anyone know if PHX 175 gets only AA flight benefits?
