Hey all first time poster here. I am going to CRJ initial for SkyWest here at the end of the month, and need advice on base selection! I live and will be commuting from OKC. I chose the CRJ in hopes of holding a line in Dallas ASAP. Right now I am thinking my priorities should be 1. DFW 2. ORD but then I am at a bit of a lost. Thoughts?

I am shooting for Southwest and was lead to believe they like SkyWest. I have 2500 TT 1200 Multi-Turbine, and a couple type ratings. Hoping this all means I will spend minimum time at regional. Also pay and benefits seem more competitive here. Am I way off base here?

Also there’s no guarantee you’ll be making it to WN, as it’s just a shot in the dark. At least at Envoy you would have a guaranteed job whether that be 5 years, 6 years, 10 years etc. You could also always apply to WN from envoy and whoever is saying we get preferential hiring at WN is feeding you lies.
If you do come here good luck though and hope your time is short.

A tad short sighted tbh. We don’t have preferential treatment at WN. We have over 5000 pilots so it’s not a mystery why a lot of guys head over there. Bigger pilot group equals more pilots moving on.

Preferential treatment or likes OO guys is just symantics... and it’s also just some kool aid. There is no factual proof of this either. WN hires from all regionals, we just have the biggest pilot group so it appears that it is more...

DFW (because you can drive if need be), DEN, IAH, ATL, ORD will be your best bets out of OKC for commuting. I’ve been a commuter out of Okc for a long time. Msp and DTw only have 1 or 2 flights a day.
Dfw and IAH you can also use southwest to DAL and HOU if you had to and Uber.

SWA does hire a lot more Skywest guys than any other regional carrier. There was a SWAPA graphic put out that showed it. Its pretty well known that the hiring folks like Skywest guys for whatever reason.
It’s not a bad strategy if that is where you really want to end up, although having a flow fallback is also a good strategy if you have doubts about getting hired in less time than it would take to flow.
I commute from okc, about 50/50 online and offline. It is mostly easy to most places. Dallas, Chicago, Denver, and Houston all have multiple flights a day on multiple carriers. Atlanta is easy as well. Spring break and high travel holidays get hectic, but that’s anywhere. Best of luck.
