For choosing aircraft for best QOL rn or trend in the future which would be most beneficial ERJ or CRJ as a NH.

With new planes is it likely the ERJ upgrade time will decrease?

It really depends on where in SoCal you live. Can you make the drive to PSP in under 2 hours? I'd choose CRJ hands down. The ERJ upgrade will likely never drop as low as the CRJ, at least not for years.

Ya I live in Orange County so PSP, LAX, FAT would be ideal. Wouldn’t mind a SFO commute. I know I’ll be on reserve at DTW or ORD for a couple months.

CRJ seems to give the best option for my goal: build time and upgrade as soon as able.

ERJ is just the shiny jet engine under wing syndrome lol but an airplane is still an airplane!

There have been quite a few getting FAT before finishing training lately. I would definitely go CRJ if I were you. PSP is a great base and you'll be able to hold left seat there this decade.

Not necessarily. Choosing the aircraft that both affords you a base close to home, faster upgrade, and much faster seniority ascension will get him both while most newbs are only interested in the shiny new toy.

I'm in the same position as OP. I have an ERJ class date this fall, but a buddy of mine who recently finished training has me thinking CRJ would be better.

I live in San Diego. Obviously I'd prefer to fly out of SAN, but I don't want to wait four years to upgrade. Commuting to LGA for 8 months sounds miserable as well. PSP is 2+10. LAX is 1+50, I'm fine with that commute. I also have family I can stay with in LA. Talked to HR, I'm on the wait list with one other person for a fall CRJ class in addition to my ERJ spot, but there are no actual CRJ openings until next year.

Am I making a mistake by trying to switch to CRJ? Should I stick it out with the ERJ?

Not sure what the best decision is, appreciate any feedback!

The upgrade eligibility is a function of seniority not current position if that's concern. You can be a LAX or PSP CRJ captain at 3-3.5 years
ERJ SAN is atleast 5 and probably more. Doesn't matter what plane you choose as an FO as far as that goes.

Personally if I had a class date nailed on the 175 I would stay, suck it up for a few months commuting to LGA or ORD or Even BOI eventually then be based at SAN until you're ready to bite the bullet again and hop to the CRJ. Get the seniority number now and start flying and worry about upgrade later. The only fast upgrades are to the midwest and ATL. The 175 is far and away a more enjoyable way to spend your first couple years accruing seniority.
In other words if you are committed to staying in SAN, not willing to commute long term outta state, then you are looking at a long long road ahead for becoming a captain anyways so you better start building seniority.

A crazy decision would be to go to the CRJ. Even if it costs 1 month... wait for the ERJ. Things move so fast. You will be in SAN flying from your home town. Not paying for parking in no time... plus the other advantage of ERJ is you can pick up trips in SAN if your based somewhere else...

I know the ERJ has a longer upgrade time/seat lock of 3 years. Live in DFW and would prefer the ERJ, however does anyone know how quick you can hold DFW out of training on the CRJ? Also any other major differences between flying the two, training, reserve, pay, etc.
