As for off days, it really depends. Third month out of class, second month of having a line, and I got 15 days this month (7 of which were all in a row). Sort of depends on how you bid, which base/equipment, seniority, and luck. In July (first month out of training, so I couldn't bid and was just given reserve days) I got the minimum 13. In August, first month I got a line, I had 14. Just taking a look at the bids for my base, the lowest I saw was 6. Lots of 12. But also a lot in the 14-16 day range. Highest I saw (with a full line, no vacation time) was 18 days. This is all FO, in a junior base.

What base are you at? Ord/Dtw?

If you're based in ORD, you can do 110-130k on Reserve pretty easy without picking up too much on days off as a year 3 CA. By year 3, you're collecting all of the bonuses, which amounts to $10,000 alone.

If you're based in a more senior base with better staffing, expect less, but you won't get one of those bases as a year 3 CA so the difference is moot.

i would say on new scale (not including per diem) it would look more like

year 1 FO 50-55K (about 3k in bonuses)
year 2 FO 65K ( about 5k in bonuses)
year 3 FO 75K (about 8k in bonuses)
this assumes profit sharing and performance bonuses stay high and you work what you are awarded and not much more (90-95 hrs/month)

I grossed 66k my first year with half of that on the old scale. In the winter months I was picking up stuff like crazy with some months crediting over 115 hours. Then I got married, lazy and stopped crediting that much.

I would say with a whole year at 50 / hour and doing an average amount of OT, 75k gross is reasonable. Could probably hit 80k if you wanted to not have a life.

I’ll second Gone Flying’s post. There are ways to spend a bunch of time playing the system and make a bunch of extra money, but if you want to have a life, then his numbers are pretty close.

As far as days off, that’s going to vary wildly depending on whether you want to be in a junior or senior base. You will be awarded 90+ hours for a very long time regardless though. Your choice as you get more senior will be do you want to work fewer really painful days getting FDP extensions all the time, or do you want to work more days but easier days.
