This is not true whatsoever... Maybe if you're a flight attendant on probation. Calling off a four day as a first year pilot doesn't have any consequence.

Hello,
That's close to my course of action but I just read this from the article posted above and it's worrying.
FIFTY-SEVEN are less likely to call if you're off grid !!
How about stay off social media completely? FB is a joke. People have 500+ friends on there when they really only have 5
Don't Delete, Instead Police
Debating removing your social media profiles while job searching? Think twice before you hit delete. Fifty-seven percent of employers are less likely to call someone in for an interview if they can't find a job candidate online. Of that group, 36 percent like to gather more information before calling in a candidate for an interview, and 25 percent expect candidates to have an online presence.

not sure this is true. sick is sick and ive literally never heard of anyone getting called without missing 10+ days in a year, even on probation. most times that ive called EMER ive called my cheif. there is a reason you are calling emer and the chiefs that i have met have been more than willing to help. usually if its not commuting its family issues and ive gotten nothing but help when ive called my chief with issues

Well here’s the silver lining, at least you found out now and it wasn’t United or Delta rescinding.
Here’s something to consider that happened some time ago.
British Airways 777 has a double flame out halfway inside the marker on the ILS and touches down just prior to the runway. Everybody lives.
Pretty cool headed crew I’d say.
Then party pictures started showing up of the (youngish) Captain and pretty FA’s. Hotel room parties and shower pics.
I don’t think he ever flew again.

So in today’s PC climate and we all need to pretend to do volunteer work and build Houses for Humanitas just to get our resume noticed by HR imagine this:
You’re flying for brand X and a piece of FOD on the runway causes a tire to blow and you end up in the ditch and we have some pax injured during the evac.
Maybe even a fatality, heart attack.
None of it your fault right?
Now the media will do a little online search and here the keg stand pics of you in your underwear start showing up.
Read the headline:
“Party Pilot Prangs Airplane Pax dead!”
Your social media footprint is in the PUBLIC domain.
That’s the reason why you’re on social media, over sharing with your bro’s and ho’s....

That's not 57% of airlines. I think for airlines the number is zero... they PREFER their employees to keep a low profile, especially pilots who become VERY newsworthy if anything derogatory comes to light, and will be publicly associated with their employer.

I'd say Skywest dodged a bullet on this one. You sound like the kind of person that is going to need the protection that a union provides. Better to go to one that has that protection for when you think your inconvenience of not getting an appointment at your spa on your off day conflicts with a reserve period.
According to your intimate knowledge of the business, with your less than the required hours to actually get hired, Skywest is a horrible place where over 5200 pilots are in currently in purgatory., Lucky for those thousands more that barely survived building their hours to move to the Majors, and the hundreds more retired comfortably on their low pay.
Enjoy your time at Republic if they hire you. But check your attitude. Remember that the Captain you'll be flying with probably has more time in moderate to severe icing than you have in real IMC, has shot more instrument approaches to minimums than times you've ever even been on an airplane during a real instrument approach. There's a good possibility your captain has more time inverted than you have under foggles, has more night traps on a carrier than you have night landings, or has shot more raw data NDB approaches IMC in the mountains of Wyoming than you've shot ILS's with a Garmin 1000 in VMC. Her CFI days are years behind her, so you're not going to impress her with your vast knowledge about what to do when your student forgets to have his log book signed on their solo cross country.
