Weird limitation, but the way OO flies the 200 is a lot different than my company. But then again, you guys also run the HYD pumps differently than we do.

Do you run the B pumps continuously?

I’m guessing your problems on visuals come from being too high. A lot of newbies to the airplane have this same problem. Once you get taken off the arrival and ATC gives a decent to a lower altitude, don’t be afraid to hustle down. Take it out of PTH, go green FLCH. Pull the boards or manual speed 210 (ATC speed dependent) flaps 1 if you need to get down faster. If ATC gives a slow down and descent, use FPA or VS and the boards/flaps. I agree, hand flying is always quicker and easier than messing with the autopilot, but you need to have a solid grasp on what each automation mode does. Once you have that, hand fly every visual, auto throttles off too. Those skills go away fast and this plane will make you lazy quick.

Where is this limitation? I've seen it done.

If only there was some kind of switch that could turn the hydraulic B pumps on without lowering the flaps.

This probably has more to do with several unexplainable gear up landings. There is plenty of history where the gear can down just fine after it was jacked up but somehow it didn’t come down in flight.

Just one more attempt to reduce that risk.

You can't get away with flying the ERJ like they did on the CRJ. The ERJ sucks up the boards over flaps one and also the VNAV is basing its path all the way to touchdown, so usually when things go south is transitioning between a VNAV managed approach to a visual approach where your trying to manually manage the automation. 90% of the time it goes to crap and I just hand fly it.
The biggest complaint with new FO's from captains is the inability of being able to handle the transition between VNAV to visual approaches.
As far as length of IOE. I believe the minimum is 30 hours and as far as max goes, I can't say for sure but I've heard it's around a hundred. Mine was around 47 hours scheduled including the final line check two day trip.
The conceptual issue people need to understand is that VNAV is designed to keep the plane as high as possible for as long as possible. If you push the speed too much you just limit your options as you are in a tight corner.

Assertive use of boards or gear can save the day in those cases.

Missing what you're putting down here. ILS single engine outline box? I ask, because I've put the gear down twice before flaps, for drag, when they leave you high and dry.
