Good advice. And remember, COVID-19 is just a little sniffle with a slight kick to it.

I have been tested and am not sick. So have a couple hundred pilots at AA. I've also had at least a dozen family members and neighbors that got tests as well. What's funny is that of all of them that have tested positive, almost none of them had any symptoms at all.

So testing is available, you just have to ask.

A second shutdown would be abysmal because it would mean the end of our economy and monetary system (in other words, it won't happen).

Maybe for you, but it wasn’t for John Prine.

while I don’t quite know if it’s the end of our currency and civilization you can’t possibly believe that any nation has the money printing power to try and keep a whole economy afloat for the better part of a year.

Some people have to die. That could very well be any of us unfortunately. That said I am not willing to tank our economy into a decade or more long depression. I certainly appreciate and respect the sentiment of trying not to put a monetary value on human life but that’s not how the world works.

It’s hard to decipher sarcasm when we work with a lot of people who actually believe that!

The difference in most of us and those who aren’t in this industry is that we have a 6 month paid stay of execution and we are just going to get furloughed, they are watching their livelihoods evaporate. We will be brought back in seniority order and press on. The rest of the population stands to lose everything and have to start over from scratch when this ends. People have their life savings invested in small businesses and restaurants. These people are also employers for a large percentage of our population. A report came out recently showing that over 30% of restaurants will never reopen. That is going to have a huge impact on the economy and millions of people’s ability to provide for their families. It’s easy to say that we should extend the lockdown when at home collecting a paycheck, it’s completely different when you are about to lose everything. How many pilots would be for continuing the lockdown if it meant that we were not being furloughed, but terminated after going several months with zero income, and forced to start all over again?
