This is so weird to hear... when I started it was the exact opposite!

After the displacements, DTW is now essentially the most senior CRJ base OO has with the exception of perhaps TUS. It'll take well over a year to hold it as the plug and that's only if we start hiring somewhat aggressively again. It'll take more growth in the base to get in sooner, and that's not looking likely unfortunately.

I was based in Detroit my first 6+ months and i've been in ORD since and i have regrets what so ever.
Commuting into ORD has not really been hard, i fly out of either West Palm Beach or Fort Lauderdale.
And depending on the month, we seem to be doing a lot of the flights. Lots of delta 900 flying in ORD going to MSP and DTW (it even looks like some of that has started going back to DTW pairings too). Our pairings out of Phoenix even had AA 700s with DTW overnights through ORD for a while, looks like they're still in ORD 700 pairings. Of course those routes are always subject to regional roulette if not upgauged to mainline, but it's nice that they exist on our aircraft for now, for those that need to commute.

It has only changed due to Covid. It was the same up until last Spring.

You've answered your own question... 9E is your option for DTW.... at least for now.

Only issue with 9E is that they sent out the "not selected" email from my application screening process. My qualifications were, "2850 TT, 750 ME, 150 Turbine, CFII, IPC current, ATP - Written, Part 135/Charter/Corporate experience, Masters Degree, local volunteer service, no failure issues.

My Skywest app is posted as "Follow Up" and Republic sent an interest email to me yesterday for their open FO position. I'm just trying to sort out how to get to DTW base and avoid ORD because DTW is driveable with family connections for overnights and reserve duties. Just have to wait and see what develops.

I think OO is overall a great place to be. However, if you want to come here for a DTW base, it's likely to disappoint. The most junior FO in Detroit is an August 2019 hire, which is the most senior CRJ FO base tied with TUS. Who knows what will happen if 9E perhaps shifts back East and shrinks DTW flying a bit and once movement starts again and creates attrition in the base through people leaving/upgrading, but still it's now just as small a base as it was in its infancy. That being said, Republic bases won't be much better for you if that's the other option.

Holy cow. I didn't realize how much attention my post would get. For the record, I went from 50% in DTW to 90%, after the displacement. No new-hires will be coming here. Don't come to OO for DTW--it's likely dead, in my opinion. Come to OO for the billions of other domiciles that we have--i.e., options. DEN, for example, is exploding and might as well be called SkyWest International Airport.
