Very true. Good points. Thanks for the input.

I’d take the 175 and move. There are great places to live and great people to live by all over the place. If you are going to CQ anyway might as well learn a new plane. Is the clock ticking and is this your last chance to easily pick up and move before you buy a house? If that house purchase is coming maybe do it where you know you will be able to drive to work.

I agree with this. Who knows how permanent DTW will be? Being in a Delta-only base is a big risk. Go to the 175 and move to a diversified 175 base like ORD, LAX, BOI or DEN (the latter is admittedly not diversified, but won’t be going anywhere). Or stay on the CRJ and do DFW, DEN, or PHX.

I’m going to play devils advocate and say by summer if flying doesn’t return to DTW then I’d put your transfer to another base that you can easily commute to. I wouldn’t uproot your life to chase flying since you have a solid foundation in DTW. Lots of pilots commute and you’re probably going to have to do it at some point if you move on to another carrier. You can’t keep moving around the country to live in base. If your young maybe, but the older you get it’s less appealing.

Count me in as agreeing too. Life gets stagnant. Soon its property taxes vs the best school district blah blah.

In a previous life the wife ok'd I take orders to Seattle. I wondered if I'd like it. Like it? I ended up taking a community college mountaineering course (with a bunch of anti-bomb hairy leg people) and climbed Rainer. Came to love those weirdos. Loved those short years.

I think life gets stagnant because we make so many safe choices. Best of luck.

While things may suck in the interim, keep in mind that it’s cyclical and you’ll likely be busy again sometime soon. It’s probably not worth the trouble moving around, chasing the flying, etc.
I'm not so sure! I want change, in regards to flying. The desire to leave grows daily. But we'll see!

It's extremely enticing, for someone like myself. A new set of wings, a new challenge, new flying/routes. I don't see myself leaving OO within the next 3 years, and if I'm being very realistic, it'll be at least 5 years, I would guess. Might as well enjoy my time here.

Transferring bases years ago and transitioning to the ERJ recently really renewed my enjoyment for flying. Both times, it was very refreshing to have a change. We’re all going to be stuck for a long time, might as well learn a new jet and have fun.

If your primary goal is to get to a better airline ASAP, then you can make the case that you should be flying as much as possible, hence moving to a busier base. As far as the boredom goes, try a new hobby or travel more.
Based on the amount of time OP has been as SkyWest and assuming they are an FO, are you saying if an FO wants to move to a better airline sooner is to fly a lot more? If I am enjoying my QOL as an FO on reserve, would it not be beneficial to cool off on the flying (as to not build too much total time), and wait to fly a lot more once upgraded to CA (figured PIC time is more important than SIC/Total time)?

I am also currently in DTW, and have all the hours to upgrade. I could have also gone to the ERJ as a FO, but my feeling is upgrades will still occur 1st on CRJ. I did not want to move bases for transition if I am going to have move again (most likely) once upgraded to CA on the CRJ. Despite being on reserve, I am trying to enjoy the slower pace of life and being with family while I can before flying picks back up. I know the feeling of boredom, but try to pick up trips out of base to change it up from time to time (extra cash helps too).
