Agreed, impossible unless we grow 20+ percent, which isn't going to happen.

The upgrades that came out yesterday have an average over 6 years, with 12 of the 32 awarded being hired during 2007 or earlier. And with every upgrade there is, there will be a certain percentage that won't leave SkyWest. Thus, the lifer pool percentage increases and average upgrades over time will increase.

 

There were a few 4yr ones.. But i think most 7-8 year FO's are watching the 5 year guys get hired at the majors and Christmas is over so there upgrading..

The number of events Skywest dishonors seniority is ridiculous. From upgrades to transfers to pbs, it's ludicrous.

#NoUnion is a dumb mindset and needs to change.

 

12 SLC FO vacancies created by upgrades/transfers. Zero backfilled. So aggravating.

If you're looking for a quick upgrade, SkyWest isn't it. But if you're looking for a good company to work for, some good bases, and upgrade in 4-6 years, SkyWest fits that bill.

 

First, don't assume being able to bid will get you the days off you want, especially if you're a newbie. This is still the airline world and paying your dues is part of the game to a certain extent. You signed up for it now make the best of it. Your best bet is to take a look at the reserve tab on sked+ and offer to switch to a day they have less coverage. You have to make a case why it helps them. If it doesn't in a noticeable way your answer will always be no.

Second... This comment makes me wonder how strong the kool-aid is during indoc these days. In ORD there is rarely open time on the CRJ despite horrendous levels of reserves. You shouldn't live in fear of your employer canning you because you have a life outside of work, especially as a new hire. Everyone is desperate to get guys in the door. They aren't going to fire people, but scare tactics do a decent job of keeping the masses in check.

 

In 4-6 years the regional world will be much different and much smaller

 

That is in the eye of the beholder. I got into a fender-bender on my way to the airport, I called in emergency. A buddy of mine's child was turning 5, he called in emergency.
