what's her name/address? she's going to be spending a lot of time alone, and might want some company.

I know about 10 new hire CFIs that got the CRJ and I know two guys with turbine time who recently got the Bro. I think they're really just sticking people where they need them. There doesn't seem to be a pattern with the people I know.

My class date is ahead of at least 5 of those CRJ guys who all got the call before me. The CRJ classes are pretty backed up.

If they can they attempt to place CFIs into the E120 and anyone with 135/121/turbine time into the RJ. If the class numbers restrict these practices they will plug as play as needed. BUT, they attempt to place the most experienced into the RJ.

Regardless of aircraft take the first class. I’ve heard of pilots who either request to wait for a later class or turn down employment here because they were assigned the E120. I have very little respect for those who are “too good to fly the E120.” I repeat, I have VERY LITTLE respect for those who are suffering from SJS and don’t understand seniority and how it relates to their future. Disclaimer: I’m talking about SJS, if you have circumstances that restrict your flexibility (family, roots, etc) and you need the RJ for domicile reasons then I fully understand. I flew with a furloughed Mesa FO a few months ago who was offered the E120 in 07 at SKW but turned it down for the RJ at Mesa just to get furloughed and end up back here as a new hire in mid 2011. Income wise he's lost out on almost $100K and set his career back 4 years.

In my experience (at least with new hires) people want the RJ because of the pay scale and the domiciles, not necessarily SJS. Most of my friends who fly turboprops love it because it's more hands on than the RJ and they get to fly around the terrain and into harder destinations. They don't like that they're getting paid 15k less than the RJ pilot who got hired the same day as them though. Most of the guys I know want the upgrade because they want the bump in pay.

In my case the domiciles for the RJ would be a lot better for me than the domiciles for the EMB 120 but the class dates for the RJ are so far in the future that I don't think it's worth waiting. I took the earliest one I could get. Trying to live in California on the EMB 120 pay scale is going to hurt.

First year pay is the same, and you can transition to the RJ after the one year seat lock.

I could see wanting to avoid the EMB if you weren't from out west as most of the domiciles are in CA.

You're numbers are incorrect.

At SkyWest first year pays the same regardless of aircraft (our EMB rates are more than Mesa’s RJ rates) and after a year you can transfer over to the RJ and you’ll be senior to those who waited for the RJ or you can sit on the RJ and watch the more senior EMB pilots move over in front of you. Not to mention that you'll make more money on the EMB first year than on the RJ since you'll more than likely hold a line much sooner. Even if you go back to those who were hired in 08, the RJ pilots made less than the EMB pilots since 90+% of the 08 EMB pilots held a line during the entire stagnation period. Plus they had better QOL since they had control of their lives with more days off. (during the stagnation period (08-late 10) the most Jr line holding RJ FO was a late summer 07 hire whereas EMB pilots hired almost a year later in early summer 08 held lines the entire time.)

Even during their second year the 08 EMB pilots made more than the 08 RJ pilots. EMB 2nd year: 90 (average line) x $30.75 = $2,767.50; CRJ 2nd year: 75 (reserve) x $36.06 = $2,704 plus the EMB FO’s made more in per diem since they worked a full month, they had an extra 3-4 days off and during those days off they could either spend that extra time with their families or pick up additional flying and make more money. Now if a second year RJ pilot can hold a line of course they'll make more (only about $6-7K more, not $15K) but by then most of the EMB FO's will be moving over to enjoy that 2nd year RJ pay as well.

I'd love to live out West eventually. It's just bad timing for me right now. I guess everything with the airlines is bad timing though. I'm happy with the offer.

Agreed. I was in an EMB class last spring, and at least half of us had previous turbine time. Most of us where also given a choice though... Wait or take first available.
