Most rsv months I’ll get a day or 2 without “working”. And that’s with only a few pilots on during the week.

I’d rather have more productive trips to avoid having to work bonus days to get the credit up. Sure you can get rerouted on a good/crappy trip...but if your trip credit is 22 vs 19.5 all month long the difference is nearly a rigged 2 day.

They are the accumulators of the pilot force - reducing bumps in the system by absorbing surge when necessary. They are the firefighters. The home owners insurance. Their value lies in their very presence and rapid response.

Now if the company chooses to use them for future open time that they don’t want to pay premium for, well... there’s not much we can do about that. We can’t force them to use reserves for the duty reserves should be earmarked for (short notice, rapid response)

Make no mistake. Those reserves ARE at work.
Yup..... Unfortunately the company, your union and many of your cohorts don't feel the same.

I made no mistake. Paying line holders premium while reserves sit at home is dumb.

JA-ing line holders because you burned all your reserves on trips you split just to make it appear they’re working is dumb.

Not true for the reasons zap stated above. Many times scheduling will hold reserves back and pay premium for that very reason.

Which I didn't disagree with. I said it is stupid to expect the company to artificially keep line credit high with 10% or so of the fleet grounded just to keep the pilots happy.

Is that take home pay after taxes or gross?

I would think maybe gross without 401k and profit sharing, although seems a little low and probably doesn’t include per diem. I made 90k working my reserve line first year.

W2 gross.
2017 is adjusted, based on a partial year.
2018 is about half on first year, second year pay.
2019 is half second year, third year pay.

That is “just working my line”. I live in base now, but commuting made it impossible for me to pick up extra. If you have no other obligations, such as a family, and can get back from a 3 day, then pick up another 3 day you can do better.

I’ve never had an open time trip awarded to me. BUT, I don’t bid on everything either.

In your first year monthly open time is where you are more likely to get something from them company (which pays second year rates which is basically premium). If you don’t mind working st first year pay then you can usually find something from someone else to pick up, slim pickings right now on day / two day trips
