I had the same issue and it barely worked out....I chose CPT because they fit my schedule. I was pleased with them.

Only 3 people in my class of 28 were typed.

To take something from Shark Tank, I don't see "the numbers" that reflect that a type is worthwhile. If you won the PowerBall and have ample free time, OK, get it. If you are a working mope with minimal freev vacation days and may put this type on the personal AMEX card, don't think I would do that....

I think the hiring market is different. Maybe I am wrong.

4 of 28 had the type in my class. Three were military and one Sun Country. I wouldn’t do it. They say they like guys not having the type so they can train them from scratch.

Having the type does in fact add points in the lineup, no question.

The type is not required, and yes times are changing. Two years ago, only 6 in my class did not have the type.

That being said, if all things are mostly equal but one pilot has the type, they will get an interview first.

While it may not make sense financially anymore, being hired a few months earlier can make a big financial and QOL difference down the road.

If you have outside resources to pay for the type, I would do it.

If you decide to do it, I went with FTI and they were great. They have locs in DEN, DFW, and MIA. I went to MIA as it cost less there (DFW and DEN sim scheduling is full/expensive). I did the 8 day accelerated course. CBT home study prior to showing up, all manuals, cockpit printout, ans checklists on EFB to study prior. Any questions I had they answered and then some. All my IPs were current AA or United line CAs or Instructors. Good luck.

I wasn’t given the time of day by SW and that was with a 73 type and flying it. Year ago.

To those who genuinely want to work here: Almost EVERY WEEK this airline is hiring more than 20 pilots who will be senior to you FOR THE REST OF YOUR CAREER!!! I'm an old, senior SOB who is probably not the best source of up-to-date info for wannabees, but if the type is still moving the needle on whether you get the call sooner than later (and from what PropCop and some others are saying, it sounds like it still is), then get the @#$$%& type....like yesterday! It's still a small expense in the grand scheme, IMHO.

At that time:

College Degree?
Leadership roles, check airman, etc ?
Turbine PIC - how much
