They won’t reinstate the type requirement again. They are already trying to figure out how they can compete in recruitment with legacy airlines that offer flowthroughs (cradle to grave employment), comparatively rapid upgrade, variety of fleet types and flying. I suspect they are very concerned that the only candidates that they will attract in the next decade or so are those who were unsuccessful at getting hired by the legacies and who don’t have a flow in their pocket.

Southwest doesn’t have a 4 year degree requirement, wouldn’t they reinstate that first to cut down the applicant pool?

Southwest applicant pool is only around 5000 according to a recruiter, which is a lot but when you consider those apps are at other airlines too it’s not that many

The great thing about southwest is that 5000 is a true reflection since they dump old apps every cycle where other airlines their app pool includes ppl that don’t need a new job anymore.

Zero chance they reinstate the type requirement. New hires with the type are already the minority, and they’ve been revamping training specifically for people who aren’t typed.
Biggest reason is supply and demand though, as mentioned earlier. |

The reason why ATP/HP stopped training guys on the 737 - they were using Boeing's manuals illegally. Boeing either sued or threatened to sue = FAA pulled their certificate.
Yes type will help. No doubt about it. Applicants with type = more competitive and getting calls to interview. Rumor is WN will reinstate the requirement for the 737 type. |
