Ok thanks. Not a dealbreaker for someone wanting to leave, but someone leaving in year 3 or 4 would be leaving a chunk of change behind

If the MAX isn't resolved or something happens with it. We will buy someone with a different airframe. Anyone see a scenario where one of the big 3 merge w SWA? With a looming pilot shortage non-competing hub cities. I say delta would pass the smell test. Every other big one has mega hubs in our bases. Not Delta.

Wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me as I’ve been getting excess since my first full year.
Pennies on the dollar and not worth missing out on being happier elsewhere.

You don’t consider our ATL base to be a mega hub?
I keed, I keed...
Personally, I don’t see us ever merging with a big 3. No way it ever passes a DOJ smell test IMO...

The MAX thing really concerns me. I’m sure it will come back, but what happens when one of these Lion Air types runs one off a runway for reasons competently irrelevant of the type and here we go again.
Do the powers that be have some kind of plan or at least coming up with one? I’d hate to think they have their heads in the sand but it’s happened before to bigger companies.
All the hiring and the elimination of premium? Was this a strategy by the company? Or just a coincidence?
Are we going to be in dirty negotiations for 7 years?
I need to stop.

Not a chance. It would never pass regulators without a major change to both companies.

Pro’s and Con’s at every job, have to do whats best for you and your family. Good news is by the time you apply, interview, get offered a job and have a class date, the MAX issue and what SWA plans to do with it should be resolved. Which will allow you to make a decision with the most relevant info available. Good luck!

777’s? 787’s? IMO the only reason the Max was parked is due to 2 crashes within a month due to what was exacerbated by a faulty system inherent to the airframe. If MCAS rears its ugly head and Lion Air bangs one in, possibly. The plane is going to be so over-engineered when the AD comes out I doubt that scenario is likely.
Will someone crash the plane again? Probably. Will it cause every Max to be parked? Doubtful.

I doubt we'd be in this mess if the max wasn't new. If SW or any other airline had a substantial amount of max at that time they wouldnt have grounded it or if so not this long. The FAA is there to promote air commerce not safety.
The chances of this happening again to the max is nil.
