I'm sorry for everyone involved! I just read the internal memo myself. I'm wondering why they decided to drain the pool. Does it cost money to keep the swimners? Honestly, I don't know. Anyone has the answer? I know we won't have new hires for a long time, but isn't it better to keep those 60 poor guys in the pool until this time comes?

that doesn’t work when it’s airline to airline and you have to submit pria paperwork. A couple guys tried that and got fired from both airlines.

Yes, this is absolutely true and has definitely happened. Under no circumstances start at a new airline without having already resigned at your old airline. You will get fired.

Well this sucks. I feel bad for all the poolies. My guess is this decision originated out of Legal (who seem to increasingly run every other department in this company). Hopefully when the hiring window finally opens again, all the poolies will go to the front of the line, with a streamlined process!

Generally, yes don't resign until the last possible second while still meeting your employers notification requirements (people have lost new jobs by leaving the old one on bad terms).

NOOOOO!

Generally airline employers (both former and new) really don't like this practice for some reason. People have been fired for attending training while still employed by a previous employer under questionable circumstances (well known exception for military terminal leave, everyone allows that). Sometimes people end up fired by both airlines.

If you really want to do this make darn sure you understand both employer's policies on the matter.

Some regionals have a "return policy" where you can go back to your old seniority within X number of months under some circumstances (usually invol termination from new employer).

SWA needs to realize that the most appealing part of their company to the pilots (and the reason they remain competitive with the big 3 even though their aircraft/destinations are not very appealing) is that they treat their employees so well. At the interview they gave us a big song and dance about how They ALWAYS honor their CJOs, even using 9/11 as an example. They said the same thing to us several times in the last few months, assuring us that we had a job waiting for us once they resume classes. This is a big black eye for them. I was one of the poolies who had his CJO revoked, so obviously I am biased. I am also lucky enough to have started at another major before the virus hit, so I am in good shape, but I was still considering leaving my job for SWA for various reasons. The email we received encouraged us to apply again once they resume hiring. No thanks!

Which is a big reason they revoked the CJOs. Plus, I think SWA will be fine without you.

One question. Which is better? Being furloughed from your current "major", or having a CJO that might materialize in several years, at best, revoked?

They never seem to hurt for applicants, even with such unappealing aircraft and destinations.

The butthurt is strong here, which I don't understand, considering how you have another job (temporarily) at "another major" and SWA is so unappealing.

Sorry man. I’m terribly sorry that happened to you. You don’t know though.....you might be better off at your current major. All the best to you.

On the SWAPA fourm, some are saying they had the same thing happen to them in 08, they said the reinterview was only about an hour. I hope that helps and sorry for what you are going through .

No worries! I’m definitely lucky to have a job at a major. And at least now I don’t need to make a tough decision in the future. I just feel bad for a lot of the guys and girls I interviewed with.
