I think we will be surprised by how many 55-60 year olds take it.

It appeals to anyone who has made their retirement goal, has a military pension, an SO with a good income, and/or a successful side business. Younger than 55s have the issue of health care as you can only make it last ten years (assuming enough sick time).

It's also attractive to older, but junior FOs who are could believe they are in danger of furlough (I don't think we will furlough but others have a varying assessments). It's an almost safe bet to take $100k/yr over five years and go look for other work than take a chance on a furlough.

Yup. Hell, I've spoken to sub 60 year old FOs taking the VSP.

Funny 1 FO took the retirement and has only been on property since Nov 2019. Is only 47.

I’m rather disappointed on the VSP number. Assuming all 158 unconfirmed take it for a total of 687, it only moves me up 3.1% in relative seniority. Don’t mistake disappointment for ungratefulness but I sure would have loved to of seen 1000 VSPers.

Anyway, let’s hope all this is enough to stave off furloughs.

I felt the same way. But look at the ExTO numbers. There are a lot of senior captains who took the 5-year option and I'd bet many of them will never return. They're just keeping that option open.

Yeah, I'm curious if or how Myseniority.com will shake this out come October. My rough calculations shows me actually losing about 3% seniority on the FO list in my domicile due to so many junior FOs taking EXTO. Then again, I didn't look at total base seniority movement yet as that's fairly irrelevant at this point.
