There are three sides to every story: his, hers and the truth. There are most definitely things about this incident we do not know from hearing only one side told. Even the most honest people are prone to recounting only those parts of an episode that support the point they’re trying to make. We don’t know what we don’t know.

What we do know is there was an unfortunate incident in which customers were deplaned for issues related to our very clearly-defined rules regarding mask wear. Our fellow crew member apparently saw this as a violation of those rules. The adult customer apparently felt otherwise.

Regarding optics: different people will interpret this differently. As Gary said in a video update, it upsets some customers when we remind them they must adhere to our conditions of carriage by properly wearing their masks, but it upsets many more customers when we don’t. Assuming that’s true, many will see this as an unfortunate incident that affected a mother and her child, but many more will be happy to see we’re enforcing the rules we adopted, and which we repeatedly and clearly communicate to each and every customer long before they ever set foot on our aircraft.

I read the article and it sounds like the FA’s on the flight into Florida set her up by not enforcing the mask policy on the way down. She was “surprised they were so strict” on this flight.

They went back to the gate to deplane them. This means there was a call to the flight deck and a conversation leading to a captain decision. I would like to hear that conversation.

I had a kid on a flight that had problems wearing a mask for 4 hrs. The FA gave the family extra snacks and always made sure there was water in front of him.
There's more ways to comply with the rules than just wear the mask or you're off.

It is mind blowing that the Dems are now trying to blame this virus and the deaths on Trump so yea there is a lot of politics going on. There is also a very big divide from the Dems who want to shut down everything to make the situation as bad as possible going into the elections. Nobody is claiming that the virus is a hoax. They are claiming that the Dems are using it to try and hurt Trump by saying he is the cause of the virus and that if he would have done something different no one would have died. You can't have it both ways either there is a deadly virus that the whole world is dealing with or this is all Trumps fault for letting a virus into the country that no one else has died from. Even though Trump shut down flights from China, stopped travel from Europe, instituted lock downs all while the dems were fighting him at every turn calling him a xenophobe and even going so far as to introduce legislation to stop Trump from stopping flights from China. You see the cognitive dissonance going on with the Dems? The best part is the Dems are praising Cumo and DeBlasio for their response even though Cumo is directly responsible for forcing the nursing homes to take in elderly covid patients who ended up killing thousands via his executive order.
