"He just wants someone else to blame the company's first furlough on."
Exactly what I'm thinking also. Though I'm very confident that we will receive extended government money and this will go away for a short season. Wish I hadn't seen this by Gary though. Wanted to remain in my joyful ignorant bliss.

FH and the company turncoats are trying to exploit a situation.
I’m voting no and getting my CDL in November as a backup.
Rather than concessions, I’d rather pay an assessment to SWAPA to cover COBRA for furloughed pilots. The company has shown its lack of loyalty with this propaganda, we just need to take care of our own.

I don’t think it’s purely Gary, although he could put a stop to it. It’s the BOD that retains FordHarrison, and this is their playbook.

If we vote it down, I’m thinking 95% chance, even if PSP2 doesn’t come through, that Gary announces in a few weeks that business is picking up more than they expected and they don’t need to furlough. But, I’d also say 99% chance PSP2 comes through.
Gary does not want to furlough. He has so much leverage over us collectively with the power of the idea of “We’re the only airline that has never furloughed”. He knows that if he ever pulls that trigger, that leverage is gone forever. Is he gonna do it over a 10% pay cut? He has saved the company billions during the course of his tenure by leveraging the no-furloughs-ever thing over us.
Maybe this is part of the reason why the other airlines insist on better pay rates: so that they’re better able to build a rainy day fund for themselves and their families to weather the inevitable downturns in this industry.

My dad has his own business in NE PA (not an option for me), and cannot find warehouse workers and truck drivers. Businesses are at a loss about how they cannot find employees no matter how much they raise the pay, and yet unemployment is so high.
The bright side is I’m confident I’ll pay the bills if furloughs come and am already getting things lined up.

Still researching. The local CC does it, but when I googled it some of the trucking companies offer it as well. I know some guys who got the book and did it on their own and I think that’s what I’ll do. Once you have the CDL, many companies will run you through their own training anyhow, similar to the airlines.

That's awesome. Look forward to hearing about what the training is like!

I like what I'm hearing out of SWAPA so far, and just emailed that message to the NC.
GK just launched a very large trial balloon. At this point, the less we all show our sentiments to the company thru social media, the better.

From: 3+ hour sit in the ATL
I did the training in August. It was 4 weeks long. I got my Class A CDL. The school was Roadmasters. It was a very good program. The trucks drive, well, like trucks. It was pretty comprehensive, professional and well run. They even helped line up a driving job for me.
I had a start date of 15 Oct, but now, since I was saved by the 1806 magnificent folks that took the VEOP, I'm still employed. So I called to thank the trucking company for the offer and told them I would still be flying airplanes. They were very cool about it and told me outright that if I ever needed to drive, they would be ready to hire me. There is huge demand for drivers right now.
As always, TFWIW, DYDD, etc....
