Had the same thought, it seems to be a little contrived like the Delta Navy pilot PA on guard. Seriously, Hyundai? CA might have just told FO he bought one I'm not a LUV, but if the guy was serious, there will be plenty of guys thinking, "I'm not surprised", because it wasn't his first rant. If the guy is a comedian, there will also be many thinking, "I'm not surprised" as well.

I thought I heard a partial laugh during the rant and have never seen an angry politics/social commentator switch gears as fast as he did into "happy guy" talking to Tower and Departure. Normally those guys stay p%ssed at everyone for awhile. Just my 2 cents.

Bad optics either way, even if parked waiting to line up.

 

The biggest issue I think is sterile cockpit. That’s where he’s screwed. Yes the roads suck too. But they have some great food in SF

 

Can't talk about Golf since it's considered a privileged white mans game, except of course that token Tiger..
Kids? what if the other pilot is unable to have kids and you'll just dredge up deep pain?
Can't talk about cars since they pollute, either out the tail pipe or due to mining of lithium, and obviously you don't care about the environment if you're a gear head.
Shooting? you must be an ultra right wing freak who thinks the government is out to get them.
Military stories? War monger.
Lawn Care tips? Shouldn't you be xeroscaping?
Food? you'll offend the level 5 vegans

 

You could talk about your white privilege. I mean chances are you are the poster child for it....just saying.

 

The lesson of Communist countries is not, “Communism, bad.” It’s don’t turn your back on the poor. Socializing certain aspects of society protects all of us. Socializing retirement (social security/ Medicare), food stamps, and safety nets in general benefit the rich from the masses breaking into gated communities.

Before you say how these programs incentivize victimization logic, tell us again about how Southwest ruined your life.

I had a captain that brought his own Connect 4 board with him and set it up on the center console of the Airbus. Wanted me to play non stop for 6 hours on a JFK SFO transcon. I started losing on purpose just to get the agony to end. Then he wanted to give me tips on better play. Can we just talk about ANYTHING? Anything at all...

 

There are some chuckles in there, too. I listened to the whole thing, and didn't think for a second that anybody was being serious. After departure, when they were talking to Tower instead of Departure (hadn't flipped over), they used funny accents to do that, too. I thought the "rant" accent was soooo over-the-top Texan it sounded like a character on King of the Hill. I thought they were just having some fun, like Steven Colbert's former-show conservative character, etc., with their over-the-top references to burning coal and driving too slow and Hyundais. If you view it as satire, it's not hilarious comedy but not awful for a couple of amateurs.

The Thought Police disagree, however. I mentioned my views in a thread elsewhere and was promptly roasted from every corner about how the pilot was clearly-serious and it was unprofessional and it was "illegal" because it violated sterile cockpit and on and on. Oy. I got in my coalburner and roared out of there at high-speed past the Hyundais, y'all.
