Depending on where you sit in seniority you may be able to get MDW as well. Also cheap hotels.

MDW hotels are not cheap at all especially if you need one last minute. BWI is a much better commute from DTW and better seniority

Thought the doubletree was under $80? Maybe it’s outdated. Also thought he was out of DEN.

Great tip on MDW. Another newbie question...better to buy a round trip ticket to make the commute or is jump seating/non-rev a reliable-enough option?

None of the MDW hotels are going for less than $110/night, I've been hearing. On the other hand, I believe crash pad prices are some of the more reasonable in the system. Just word of mouth, though, as I am not a commuter.

Starting at SWA soon…. Commuting from CMH with more flight frequency to MDW than BWI is there any advantage to choosing either base as far as reserve schedule and then holding a line with schedules and trips?

yes, lately all the new hires have been getting dumped into BWI. This matters because contractually they get a hardline their first full month on the line, which pushes those just ahead of them back down deep into reserve territory. It makes getting off reserve take that much longer. Used to be why reserve in OAK took so long to get off. You’ll probably get BWI anyway, but bidding into MDW for the next few months may help you see the light sooner.

Appreciate the info. Commuting to MDW looks to be a lot more tolerable than only a flight or 2 going to BWI. I’m guessing ATL is probably still unattainable for quite awhile? That would be the only other easy commute as I could use DAL out of DAY to get there several flights each day. AA and UAL out of DAY could get me to ORD on a bunch of flights but didn’t look like there is a viable way to make the trip from ORD-MDW very feasible.

My class was hired in mid/late 2022 and I think we have someone going into ATL next month. It's not impossible mind you, but it is one of our most senior bases. I would stick to MDW and get to a line ASAP. Commuting to reserve is one of the more challenging aspects of this career.

That’s hopefully the plan. Been lucky up until now to live in base. I’ve read SWA isn’t very commutable friendly so hopefully getting a line in MDW will come sooner than later.
