4th airline and 2nd major. Ive never flown with a pilot that has “fooled around” on guard here or anywhere else. Not once. I guess the new Gen haven’t hit puberty yet. I prefer to fart into the mic though.

It just doesn’t get any better than this.

So the American guy moaning over the PA didn't think he was doing it on Guard? Okay dude.

That is a classic. Sadly there is nor was a Richard Winston on the DL pilot seniority list.
I really wanted there to be one so I could maybe meet and thank him one day for that inspiring sermon.

So fake. Every once in a while, you'll hear someone key up on Guard and try that stunt.

In every single airplane I've ever flown, I can not recall the COM 2 mike button being ANYWHERE near the PA button.

I'm assuming you are being facetious because your post are normally pretty well thought out. In my airlines world I am forced to listen to the 121.5 abuse because many times calls are missed because of language, accents or poor radios. Go NORDO for too long and you will get a visit from some small, very fast aircraft. It's happened several times in my time here at my current employer. There are places in the world we go were missing a few radio calls and then not being on GUARD can cause some pretty serious consequences. This is beyond the fact that legitimate emergency uses can be blocked by this garbage.

All this is to say that I too hate the childishness on 121.5 and it doesn't just happen in the US. I wish they would just use an AWAC that is on a training mission for a few days and burn one or two of these clowns. The problem would stop overnight if a few Bozos got thirty-day license suspensions for abusing the radio.

That's my procedure as well. Just like I let the other guy center up my heading bug for me.

FDC 4/4386

The NOTAM says, “ALL AIRCRAFT OPERATING IN UNITED STATES NATIONAL AIRSPACE, IF CAPABLE, SHALL MAINTAIN A LISTENING WATCH ON VHF GUARD 121.5 OR UHF 243.0.”

Does that mean SWA should be monitoring guard below 10,000’? Unless it has changed (and it may have), we’re required to monitor station operations below 10,000. Is that part of our Ops Specs? Genuinely curious.

“Ground contact.”

It's getting old and unprofessional. At least come up with something original like a haiku or even go for a TED talk style broadcast.
