In all seriousness management has run this place into the ground. They got way too carried away with cutting costs and this is the end result. Even for airline standards technology at SWA is from the Stone Age. The company relies heavily on people picking up OT to have a properly staffed operation in order to avoid paying more full-time employee benefits. Management has stalled on contracts for over half of the workforce which has people bailing for competitors at an unprecedented rate.
I wish I could say I’m confident things will get turned around but I’m not. Bankruptcy in the next couple years is definitely in the cards. The “culture” that made this place admirable decades ago is dead and cannot ever be replicated again.

I actually do and got a United Interview date scheduled. I was thinking of cancelling it since I will be at SWA class and was happy with my choice. Really don’t know what to do now. I take comments here with a grain of salt, but really this experience has made me nervous.

With that said, SWA is going to need to do what Spirit had to some months back. A hard reset. 2000+ flights cancelled today and counting. There’s no recovering from that. Need to stop and restart the airline at this point. Good luck to everyone stuck out there trying to get home, or even into a hotel room.

And what are you going to do when United has an operational meltdown? I wouldn’t make such long term decisions based off of a few days of poor weather event recovery. Everyone gets their turn in this business I’m afraid.

Dude, it’s almost 60% of Southwest flights today and the day isn’t over. I don’t remember any airline ever coming close to that.
