Corp guy here looking for opinions.
Last year when I cracked 1000 TPIC I applied. I have a very small amount of SIC turbine. I transitioned to jets out of pressurized pistons and was immediately approved as captain as soon as I finished my PIC type school…so thats a bit unusual. My TT is decent, I have 100+ international flights, I’m chief pilot for our complex operation where we employ industry standard SOPs and CRM. We fly a big map in all conditions, and I’m in charge of 100% of the trip logistics, pilot hiring/scheduling, insurance, maintenance, etc.
I recently interviewed and got the TBNT. The conversations seemed comfortable, and I received positive feedback (although I was sick the day prior so my tired brain may not have registered signals…it seemed good to me at the time).
I have been hearing about several CAs with more experience than me, also getting the TBNT from my week. My refs (including a bunch of 121 guys who know me well and expected me to sail through) are surprised.
I feel confident the low SIC hours (compared to TPIC hours) created some confusion at best, and maybe concern at worst regarding my experience. I have docs (insurance etc) I can bring to clarify that situation next time around. I was mentally unprepared for someone to question the validity of my logs (my bad). They are automated using a GDL 52 recording every trip, so they are as accurate as can be.
What would you do to prep for another attempt considering I can’t change the low SIC hours?
Just bring backup documentation? Go get a 737 type? Go to a ULCC first? Keep cranking in corporate?
Feel free to DM me.
For the record, it was a fun day in Dallas and the interviewers all seemed like pilots I would enjoy flying with.
TIA

Challenging the logs doesn’t have much to do with the logs, they’re trying to see how you handle confrontation. A polite “if you give some time I can verify my times” is a reasonable response.
As others inferred, use this as practice for the big three.
